I could feel my body quiver as he continued to pound inside me. Pushing against each thrust, I could smell his scent, which enhanced my pleasure even more. Axe pulsed inside me, and within seconds I met his release with my own. The animalistic desire for each other left us both soaked in sweat.
Breathing hard, sucking in every ounce of available air, I turned my head and looked at Axe. “I am so addicted to you. I want it to always be like this.”
“I want it to be like this too,” he said, rolling over and kissing the top of my head. “How about we do it my way now.”
I giggled and looked down at his muscular body to find that he was still hard. “You got it,”
I pushed to a sitting position and straddled his waist. More than ready for round two, I lowered myself onto his hard shaft and moved my hips up and down. Drenched in my juices, Axe moaned with pleasure while moving his hips against mine. There was no rush—just us enjoying the feel of each other—knowing that at any time, our release could come. Our bodies came together in perfect unison as we continued to embrace the pleasure together. Unable to hold my impending release any longer, I fell against Axe’s chest, completely spent. And for the first time in my life, I knew what love was.

Two hours after having the best sex ever, I put away everything I had bought. Half an hour later, Axe and I were on the couch arguing about Axe’s visit with Levi. We promised never to keep things from each other, which was why Axe felt compelled to let me know about Levi and his relationship with Niles Harris. All along, I thought Levi was doing time for me, but in reality, he was living in Texas the whole time. Axe wouldn’t tell me what Levi was doing in Texas, denying that he knew. His expression said something different. Axe was keeping something from me, and I was determined to find out what it was.
Standing from the couch, I looked at the clock on the microwave and then at Axe. “I’m going to take a quick shower and then go to bed.”
Axe grabbed my hand and pulled me onto his lap. “I know when you are upset, Kenzi. What is going on in that pretty little head of yours?”
Axe knowing me better than I knew myself was a hindrance in our relationship. It meant that I had to work a little harder to throw him off. “I just thought you could join me in the shower.”
A point for me. Axe wasted no time lifting me off his lap and leading me to our bedroom. I knew him better than he knew himself. Taking a shower with me was one of his favorite pastimes.

Kenzi
Went to the gym. Love you.
When I woke up, Axe was no longer sleeping beside me. The fact that he had left a note instead wasn’t unusual. Axe was an early bird, and if I wasn’t awake, he would always leave me a note before sneaking off to do whatever it was that he had to do. Even though he always left me a note, it was still annoying that he didn’t wake me before he left.
It was earlier than I liked, but since I was already awake, I pushed the covers off and headed to the kitchen, where I knew Axe had made a pot of coffee. Truth be told, he made the best coffee ever. As I poured coffee into my mug, I thought back to our conversation from last night. I knew there were secrets he was keeping from me. I was no saint and kept the biggest secret of all from him. Tonight, I had to tell him about the job offer in Chicago. I’d ease the news by cooking him the best meal ever. Telling him that I would be leaving Atlanta in two weeks would be the hardest thing I would have to do. Tears clouded my eyes at the thought of leaving Axe and my best friend. Was I making the right decision?
It wasn’t the wrong decision. This was my future. I had to focus on something else. I decided to get dressed and head to The Regency, where I knew Reyna would be. She was the only person I trusted to help me find information on Levi and not tell anyone, especially Axe.
I left the apartment a little after eight and figured that when I got to the hotel, Reyna would be there. My favorite express coffee shop was on the way, so I picked up two lattes for Reyna and me. Reyna loved coffee as much as I did. Hopefully, with the coffee I would use as a bribe, she would agree to help me.
I stepped into the lobby at The Regency thirty minutes later. I should have known that the line at the Java Shack would be five cars deep. Holding onto the two cups of coffee, focused on not dropping them, I hadn’t noticed the man sitting in a chair near the cascading waterfall.
“Ms. Horton.”
I turned toward the deep voice and sucked in a breath as my heart fell to my stomach. The man who called out my name was the same man Axe refused to introduce me to at the Pizza Barn. Axe must have told him my name. As he walked toward me, I noticed his short dark brown hair, spiked to perfection. He looked confident wearing faded jeans and a tight blue shirt, which showcased his well-built body. The sight of him made me wonder if he had served with Axe, even though Axe said he was the officer that recruited him. He had that military kind of look about him.
Coming face-to-face with him, I smiled and said, “I remember you. You're Axe’s friend.”
“Is that what he told you?” he asked.
“I assumed you were since Axe and you were talking to one another the other night.”
“I don’t believe Axe properly introduced us. My name is Van Wilkerson. I helped Axe enlist in the Army.” Van Wilkerson said as he held out his hand.
I didn’t want to seem rude, so I placed the coffee I was holding on the table near me and shook his hand. “Axe told me you were. It’s nice to meet you.”
“I could buy you a drink, but seeing how it is only 9:00 a.m., that would be inappropriate.”
He was charming; I had to give him that. “Thank you for the offer, but you’re right.” For a long moment, we just stared at each other. “Having a drink with you is inappropriate no matter the time of day. It was nice meeting you, Mr. Wilkerson.” I grabbed the coffee from the table and turned to leave.
With my back toward him, he replied, “Maybe another time.”
Did he not understand what I said? Instead of elaborating, I ignored his reply and headed toward the wall of elevators. More than anything, I hated handsome men who used their good looks to entice a woman.
