Releasing my hold on Reyna, I held her at arm’s length. “Reyna, do you know why your mom and dad would want to take you away from the villa?”
With a slight nod, she said, “They said I wasn’t safe here. My father said Rui knew where I was and would soon come to take me away.”
“I would never let that happen.” I had to reassure her that she was safe with me and not with her parents, whom she only recently met. “Salko will never hurt you again, princess. I promise.”
Remembering that I still had her locket, I reached in my pocket, took hold of her hand, and placed it in her palm. Her eyes fell from mine to her hand, and a smile spread across her face. “You found it. I thought I lost it forever.”
“It was on the rug in the living room. Let me help you put it on.” My eyes were on her opened hand as I lifted the locket by its chain.
Waiting until she turned around, I lifted the necklace up over her head and waited until she lifted her gorgeous brown hair so I could fasten the clasp at her neck. Her hand was on the diamond locket when she turned to face me. “Thank you for finding it.” Something in her words meant more.
Rubbing my hand along her cheek, I remembered she deserved so much more than I left her with an hour ago. “About the other thing. We will work through it together.”
Patton was aware of the situation and cleared his throat. “I’m going to check on Giles and Louise. If you need anything, call.”
Once Patton left the entryway through the front door, I took Reyna by the hand and led her to the living room, where I could apologize not only for the way I treated her but also for leaving. Taking a seat on the couch, I turned to face her. “I’m sorry for leaving you. I should have never said what I did. It was wrong.”
She placed her hand on mine as if to appease my wrongdoing. “You have nothing to apologize for. I probably would have reacted the same way, but I need to tell you something. I have already taken a pregnancy test, and it came back negative.”
I should have been relieved, but a sadness washed over me. “What do you mean you took a pregnancy test? When? How? You’ve been with me since we’ve been here.”
“Mika helped me get it when you left the shopping center. I distracted Patton while she purchased one for me. I got scared. After what happened yesterday with no protection and knowing I was without my birth control pills for over three weeks, I had to know.”
“You said you missed your period. How long?” I don’t know that it mattered. Even though she said the test was negative, there was still a chance Reyna was pregnant.
“It’s been at least four weeks.”
Before I worried, the only way to know for sure was to make an appointment and find out for sure. “I think we need to see a doctor to find out for sure. If it turns out that the test was wrong, we will both deal with it. Together.”
Reyna’s eyes met mine. The way she looked at me made me want to climb inside. So, I did.

Reyna
The vise that gripped my heart earlier had lessened the minute Davian took me into his arms. He assured me everything would be okay, and that whatever happened, we would get through it together. When he left the master suite hours ago, I knew he was hurt by what I said, but no matter how hurtful his reaction was, he was the man I had fallen in love with. In my heart, he proved he loved me with the words he shared moments ago.
After the wonderful dinner that Davian felt obligated to prepare, we headed to the master bedroom. I should have been exhausted with everything that happened throughout the day, but I wasn’t, nor was he. Taking me by the hands, he stood before me with a mischievous grin. “Remove your clothes, princess.”
Saying I was nervous was an understatement. It might have been because, for the first time, he was seeing me and how vulnerable I had been. Kicking off my sandals, my eyes never left his as I reached behind my back to lower the zipper on my skirt. My skirt fell to my feet as Davian’s sexy grin sent a surge of excitement through my body. I tried to work the buttons on my shirt, but my fingers weren’t in sync with the thoughts running through my head.
Relax, Reyna. This is Davian. The man you love.Filling my lungs with air and releasing it, I managed to get them undone. My shirt fell down my arms, pooling on top of the skirt, still sitting at my ankles. Lifting one foot and then the other, I stepped to the side of the pile and waited for further instructions.
I should have felt exposed to Davian, especially since he was still fully dressed, but the way he looked at me made me feel nothing but desired and beautiful. Skimming his thumb across my lower lip, he leaned closer, his lips a breath away when he said, “Beautiful,” before capturing my lips with his.
A small whimper escaped against his lips as his hands fell to my lower back and then to my ass cheeks. Grabbing a cheek with each hand, he lifted me from the floor in one swift movement. I wrapped my arms around his neck while my legs found their place around his waist. His masculine scent filled my senses, causing me to pull him even closer. Sinking one knee on the bed, Davian carefully lowered my body to the mattress while keeping me close.
He was still fully dressed, and there no way I could have that, so I glided my hands between our bodies and began freeing the hem of his polo shirt from his pants. Davian stopped my effort, and my gaze met his. “Not just yet, princess. I want your hands above your head.”
I loved his dominant side, so instead of refusing, I did as he asked. Raising my arms above my head, I rested them against the soft fabric of the silk comforter. Davian gave me a tender kiss on the lips before pushing from the bed. I knew this wasn’t as far as it would go as he walked to the closet and turned on the light. Curiosity kept my eyes on the door as I waited for him to appear. Every ounce of resolve I had was tested only because, more than anything, I wanted to find out what was keeping him in the closet instead of on the bed with me.
I lost my will to stay put and moved to the foot of the bed, then sauntered toward the closet door. When I was halfway between the bed and the closet door, Davian appeared. His eyes met mine with a stern stare. “You need to work on following instructions, princess.”
Guilt matched with regret took over. Lowering my eyes to the floor, I said, “I’m sorry. You were taking too long.”
When I looked up, his expression suggested I return to the position he left me in moments ago. Rushing to the bed, I laid on my back and placed my arms above my head. Closing my eyes, I felt a dip in the mattress. My breath hitched, and my eyes flung open. Wearing only his pants, Davian towered above me, holding a black silk scarf. I wasn’t focusing on the scarf. It was his masculine form that had my attention. Never would I get enough of him.
Twisting the scarf in his hand, he leaned in closer, his mouth close to mine. “Give me your hands.”
