“It was more than amazing, princess. It was me loving you.”

Other than my massage with Kelly, I had never felt more relaxed. Davian and I spent most of the day on the patio enjoying each other’s company. Nick had shown up and greeted us each with a piña colada. Not only was Nick a great cook, but he could also make a mean drink. It was so refreshing that Davian and I ended up having two each.
I could have stayed next to the pool all night with Davian, but unfortunately, that wasn’t possible. Davian had other plans for me, which included a long hot shower filled with more wild sex. I began to think that I would never get enough of him.
While I finished getting dressed for the dinner reservation Davian had made for us, he went to his study to check on The Regency. It seemed like a lifetime ago since I had been there. How could I forget my first time going there? What was supposed to be a simple dinner date turned into something terrifying. At the time, I barely knew Davian and thought he was a crazy person.
Smiling to myself, I knew if I hadn’t accepted Davian’s dinner invitation all those months ago, we wouldn’t be together today. And to think, I thought of him as an arrogant billionaire whose only motivation was the gratification of winning. Davian was far from it. He was the most compassionate man I’ve ever met. There wasn't a selfish bone in his body.
Smoothing my dress with my hands, I turned from side to side to inspect the fit. I loved the way the dress hugged my curves. The way the gathered material came together down the length of the dress made it easy to move in. I wasn’t sure about the color at first, but I had to say, green was a good color for me. Davian would be pleased with my choice of attire for dinner.
I slipped into my black satin stilettos and took one last look at myself before heading down the stairs to find Davian. Our reservations were at seven o’clock, and there was still an hour before we had to leave. I was so excited. We would be going out like a normal couple without having to look behind our backs for danger lurking around. A funny thought came to mind. I wondered how Crosby was enjoying his new home. He deserved everything coming to him. Hugo and the other two men of Crosby’s did too.
My heels clicked against the marble floor, which alerted Davian. When he turned away from the window that looked out to the patio, he had a brilliant smile across his face, brightening his handsome features. I would never get enough of his smile. It warmed me from head to toe.
He looked confident and powerful in his black Armani suit as he walked over to the liquor cart. I couldn’t take my eyes off him. His designer suit was cut in all the right places and enhanced his broad shoulders and slim waist. Pouring a Scotch for himself and a glass of red wine for me, he made his way over to where I stood in awe. If it hadn’t been for our reservation, I would have suggested that we stay in and have Nick whip up something for us instead.
I took a sip of the wine he handed me and allowed the savory taste of silky tannins and red cherries to stimulate my palate. The taste was divine yet sinful at the same time. As I continued to enjoy my glass of wine, Theo stepped into the room. “Excuse me, sir, but I’ve brought the car around, and we can leave whenever you’re ready.”
“Thank you, Theo. Reyna and I will be right out.”
Theo gave Davian a curt nod before leaving the room. As I watched him go, I remembered the first time I met him. I was terrified of him. He had a large build and could easily bench 600 pounds. The more I got to know him, I found him to be kind and funny. Still, I wouldn’t want to get on his bad side.
Finishing our drinks, Davian and I headed to the front door. I saw Davian had gone all out when I stepped out of the house. Parked on the driveway was a limo. I should have known tonight would be special, especially with Theo dressed in a black suit rather than the clothes he usually wore while guarding the gate. But, even in a suit, he looked intimidating.
Settled behind the wheel, Theo put the limo into drive and headed down the driveway. The days were getting shorter, and the sun was just about to set. The colors were beautiful, with orange, yellow, and red dipping slowly behind the hills.
I was dying to know where Davian was taking me, so once we were through the gate, I asked, “So, where are you taking me, all dressed up?”
“There is somewhere special I want to take you. You could say it is a surprise.” Giving me no clue as to where we were going, Davian took my hand resting on my lap and kissed the back of it. “I know how much you love surprises.”
“You know me so well, but how about a little hint.” I played it up by giving him a pouty, sad look to get my way.
Davian leaned in and placed a kiss on my cheek. “I’ll tell you what, princess. When we get closer, I’ll give you a hint.”
Snuggling against his arm, I laid my head on his shoulder. I decided to be patient and wait to see what he had in store for me. Whatever it was, I knew it would be amazing. I was both anxious and excited at the same time.
When we reached the city of Chicago, Davian finally gave me an idea of where we were going. “When I first started Cross Enterprises, I often came to Chicago to do business. During that time, I was able to take advantage of what the city offered. Tonight, I wanted to take you to one of my favorite places.”
While I hung on Davian’s every word, Theo pulled up in front of the LondonHouse Hotel. As lovely as the hotel looked outside, I found it out of character for Davian to pick this particular hotel to have dinner. I wasn’t complaining, but The Four Seasons or The Ritz was more his style.
A valet wearing a red jacket greeted us by opening the back passenger door. Davian exited the limo first. Davian offered his hand, and I took hold of it and elegantly stepped out of the car. As soon as the valet closed the door, Theo pulled away.
When we entered the hotel, I expected Davian to head toward the reception desk, but instead, he led me to the elevators. Sensing my confusion, he gave my hand a light squeeze. “Our dinner reservation is on the 22ndfloor. It offers rooftop dining.”
“How exciting.” Besides seeing the city lights from Davian’s plane, I hadn’t experienced the full effect of the Chicago lights.
The elevator door to the 22ndfloor slid open, and waiting on the other side was a man dressed in a dark suit. “Good evening, Mr. Cross. Your table is ready.”
“Thank you, Felix.”
It didn’t surprise me that the host knew Davian by name, but instead, it put a smile on my face, knowing the respect Davian had earned. As we followed Felix to our table, I took in the surroundings. I could hear soft jazz music playing in the background and wondered if it was a CD or live. The restaurant had an intimate feeling about it with the soft lighting on the tables and the white linens. I hadn’t tasted the food yet, but knew that I would come here again based on the soothing atmosphere.
Felix led us from the indoor dining to a table outside near the balcony. Under normal circumstances, it would have been chilly this high up, but it was pretty comfortable with the heat lamps placed throughout the rooftop terrace. No wonder Davian loved eating here.
