When Davian pulled me in for a hug, his scent filled my senses as I breathed him in. The smell of musk and something woodsy lingered in the air as he broke our embrace but keeping his arms wrapped around my waist. His eyes dropped from mine and glided down my body.
“I guess I’m a little underdressed,” I said, giving him a bashful smile.
“What you are wearing is perfect.”
As he kissed the top of my head, I heard the patio door open behind me. “Breakfast is ready, Mr. Cross. Would you like to have it served on the patio?”
Before Davian could answer, I said, “That would be lovely.”
“You heard the lady, Niles. We will have breakfast outside.”
As soon as Niles went back inside, Davian took hold of my hand and led me to where the young woman, about my age, was still standing. She greeted us with a friendly smile. “Hello, Ms. Braxton. My name is Kelly. I will be giving you your massage treatment today.”
“How wonderful. Please call me Reyna. Ms. Braxton is much too formal.” Placing my hand in her extended one, I looked to Davian with a smile. “Did you plan all of this for me?”
“I might have made a few phone calls.” Davian presented another dazzling smile before kissing me on my temple. He always had a way of making me feel like I was the only person in his world.

With the amount of food I ate, one would have thought I hadn’t eaten in a week. There was so much food to choose from that I couldn’t stop eating. Davian’s excuse was Niles cooked so much food because he didn’t know what I liked. For myself, the pancakes and bacon Niles prepared would have been enough, but there was no way I wasn’t going to try everything, especially given the way he had prepared the meat, potatoes, and eggs. Everything tasted amazing.
Shortly after breakfast, Davian left the patio to do some work in his study while I stayed outside with Kelly. As she prepared her massaging ointments, I hopped up on the table and rolled over on my stomach. Kelly placed a large towel on the table, which I used to cover my body as I removed my t-shirt. The heat from the sun kept my body warm, and after finishing such a wonderful meal, I felt more relaxed than ever. If I hadn’t just woken up an hour ago, I would have taken a short nap.
I laid my head on the small pillow, and Kelly turned on tranquil music that reminded me of a rain forest. It was just as soothing as the warmth of the sun. As I listened to the soothing music, she placed heated stones along each side of my spine. I’d read about stone massages even though I had never had one myself. There were so many benefits—everything from relaxing the muscles to relieving back pain.
Kelly applied warm oil to my skin near the stones and glided the smooth stones up and down my back. With the pressure she used against my skin, my muscles started to relax. It was the best I had felt in forever. Too bad Davian wasn’t here to experience this with me. He, of all people, could use this type of therapy to relax.
A half an hour later, Kelly had me roll over onto my back. She held the towel slightly over the table to shield my naked body. I was pretty sure that we were alone and no one was paying attention, but it was a kind gesture on her part.
While I laid relaxed on the table, enjoying the soft music, Kelly walked toward me, holding a ceramic bowl filled with something green in color. “This is a cucumber mask. It has many benefits, including stimulating new cell growth and removing toxins caused by the environment. It is also great for revitalizing tired skin by making your skin look firmer and healthier.”
“Mmm… that sounds wonderful,” I said as she began spreading the thick mixture on my face. “What exactly is in the mask?”
“Well… cucumbers, of course, plus a little oatmeal and honey.”
If the cucumber mask did as she said, I would be using this facial treatment at least once, if not twice a week. It had to be much better than the store-bought masks that I typically purchased. As Kelly continued to spread the mixture on my face, I could already feel the cooling sensation from the cucumbers.
After placing a slice of cucumber over each eye, Kelly wiped her hands on a small towel and said, “The mask has to stay on for fifteen minutes. Relax and enjoy the music.”
Sinking deeper against the table, I did just as she said and relaxed. With the warmth of the sun and the cooling mask against my face, I began to float away, blocking everything around me except the sound of the music. I was in heaven.

While Kelly was pampering Reyna on the patio, there were a few things I needed to take care of before I could dedicate all my time to her. As I headed to my study, my cell vibrated inside my back pocket. When I pulled it out and looked at the screen, I could see that it was Patton calling. McCall should be in police custody awaiting transportation to jail. So, I wasn’t sure why he would be calling unless something happened to Gwen.
Using my index finger, I swiped it across the screen and brought my cell to my ear. “What’s up, Patton?”
“Crosby McCall is MIA. My friend at the police department said Crosby wasn’t inside the cabin when they arrived. They searched the perimeter, but all they found was his car. The only good news is they also found the gun we planted.”
“Are you shitting me? How the hell did he get away?” I was furious. I thought for sure we had him.
“He must have been tipped off. Gwen took his phone and we are going through it now. Hopefully, we can find something that will tell us where he is.”
The only thought that came to mind was Delilah.Had she double-crossed me and told Crosby I was looking for him?It seemed to be the only logical explanation. I couldn’t believe someone on the police force would have tipped him off. “Let me know what you find out.”
“Will do.”
