There were tears in her eyes when she made contact with mine. “He told me to trust him. I should have never let him do what he did. I should have walked away from him and waited for my punishment.”
“Lanie, he is a dominant and he should have never put you in that position. Keeping you safe should have been his number one priority.” Just the thought of what he did made me angry. He could have killed Lanie, and for what? His own greed. His own satisfaction.
As we headed out of Lanie’s room, Martin was waiting for us at the bottom of the stairs. His demeanor was more confident than in the playroom.Did he realize what he had done to Lanie?Keeping my eyes on him, I squeezed Lanie’s hand tighter as we took each step. Martin didn’t move as we made our way toward him.
Reaching the bottom, Martin moved in front of me, stopping me in my tracks. “I will not allow you to take Lanie from this house. I know what happened at the club and she would be safer here.”
“Are you fucking kidding me? You almost killed her. How the hell would she be safer here?”
Martin didn’t argue as I pushed him out of the way. There was no way I would ever let Lanie stay here. He was a loose cannon. Who knew when he would go off?
Opening the front door, we were ready to leave when Lanie stopped. Letting go of my hand, she turned around and walked back to where Martin was still standing. Wrapping her arms around his shoulders, she gave him a hug. It was the last thing I expected her to do after what happened in the playroom. Releasing him, she stood back, her eyes on his. “Goodbye, Martin.”
Goodbye and good riddance, I thought to myself. The only way I could ever keep Lanie safe would be to keep her away from Martin.
