“Six months.”
“Six months! I can’t have that teenage disaster in my dealership for six months.”
“It won’t be that bad.”
“Josh, he did over $2,000 damage to equipment in less than three days. How can you say it won’t be that bad?”
“Look, I know Carson’s is in a cash bind right now. If Will does any more damage, I’ll pay for it myself.”
“I thought the whole purpose for having Will work here was for him to pay off the damage he’d already done.”
“We don’t have to tell him I’m paying. He’ll learn his lesson, and you won’t be quite so strapped for cash.”
“I suppose we could work it that way.”
“Good. Now about Crayman.”
“No, I’m not even going to discuss it. Crayman handles supplies for the entire dealership. It’s the safest place for Will. Besides, I’ll have a full-scale mutiny if I try to foist Will off on any of the other departments right now. Maybe in a couple weeks, when the managers are finished with their efforts to economize, I can shift Will.”
“Okay, okay. It’s your business, and I don’t want to fight with you, Sara.” Josh reached over to her lap and pushed her empty plate to the floor. The action left him with a hand on each side of her hips and his face very close to hers. “I’ve been waiting all evening for a chance to do this again.” His lips brushed hers.
Sensation overtook him so forcefully, he had difficulty holding back. Rushing things would get him nowhere. His efforts at restraint nearly flew out the window when she reached for him with her mouth. Longing for her touch flooded him. What was he waiting for?For the right moment, and now is not the time. Not when Sara is acting on impulse.
He pulled back. The air felt cool where her mouth had warmed his. Her hands shot up and grabbed his shirt. Her eyes opened. Green fire and her divine mouth filled his vision.
“You can’t deny it, Sara.”
She shook her head.
Her scent—lavender with a tang of ocean breeze—surrounded him.
“Tell me you want me as much as I want you.” He wasn’t going any further until she owned up to an equal part in their relationship. Now there was a misnomer if there ever was one. Relationship was a poor word to describe the passion that underlay every encounter, sexual, angry, or otherwise between them.
She nodded. The flame in her eyes burned his soul. His throat went dry. He tried to swallow. “Say it. Say you want me.”
She opened her mouth. A harsh needy sound rasped in his ears. “I want you, Josh. I need…”
He didn’t wait for her to finish. He laid his mouth on hers, slipped his tongue within, and stroked the tender inner surface of her lips.
Finally, the time was right. He and Sara were at last where they had to be. She took his lower lip between her teeth and scraped lightly at it. His head spun. More. He had to have more.
She released his shirt with one hand and reached upward. Her palm slid around to the back of his neck. Her fingers twined in the hair at his nape. She bit gently at his upper lip. Someone moaned.
He pulled Sara upward and across his chest. When things settled, she lay stretched out over his body. Every hard muscle from chest to thigh pressed against her softness. He caressed her back with one hand. The other caressed her bottom, compelling her to recognize the hardest portion of his anatomy. Her hips shifted over him.
He groaned. “Ah, Sara.”
She raised her head, closed her eyes, and smiled. That smile made his heart twist and his stomach dance. He lifted his head from the floor. His lips nibbled at hers once more, then sprinkled kisses from ear to chin. His head dropped back. He stopped drawing circles on her spine long enough to tug on her hair.
“Come closer.”
Sara let her head drop to his, let her body stroke his in time with the rhythm of the hand that shifted under her skirt. There was only one way to get closer.
His fingertips flirted with the hollow covered by silk panties. Sara squirmed. Josh’s questing fingers probed beneath the silk and pressed at the same time his hips surged. She met him full force. Swamped by the urge to taste, he licked the sensitive joint between her shoulder and neck. Lavender, sea breeze, and woman. He couldn’t get enough. A primal sound emerged from his throat, and he bit that tender spot.
“Ow!” Josh’s hands squeezed reflexively, then tore away the silken barrier.
The exclamation and her arms pressing against his chest set alarms ringing in his head. He went still.Sara set her hands on his shoulders and lifted away from him. “Josh?”
