Me:No, wait. Rachel is going to drop me off first.
There was no answer, and as Rachel pulled into her driveway, I was relieved to see Tyler’s truck wasn’t there yet. Iknew he read my message. It’s not like he fell asleep in the last thirty seconds it took for my message to arrive. I would be lying if I said I didn’t feel bad, but it didn’t seem like the moment to let Rach know Ty and I had made peace.
I waved goodbye to Rachel and walked toward my house. I was at my front door as she stepped inside hers. With one quick text to my parents, I let them know I was safe and would return in the morning. As soon as that was sent, I saw a lone figure walking at the end of the street.
I was tipsy, and I was horny. I didn’t think twice about it and began to make my way over there since I remembered that was where Tyler had parked his truck earlier today.
Just as I made it halfway through the street, lights pointed at me from behind. Like a deer caught in the headlights, I stopped. My heart began to race faster as I adjusted my eyes and realized it was a truck next to me—Ty’s truck.
The window rolled down, and I made eye contact with an annoyed Tyler. I looked back at the road, and no one was there anymore, but I didn’t question this.
“What the hell are you doing walking around? I get that you don’t want anyone to see me, but you should have stayed put.”
In my right state of mind, I would have detected the hurt in Ty’s voice, but right now, I was a little psyched out. I was running to a stranger, but at the same time, happy to finally be with Ty again.
“I thought it was you,” I told him, which made his eyes soften.
“Come on, beautiful, let’s get you to bed,” he said, and I immediately reached for the door.
The drive was filled with idle chatter about the wedding. Mostly, I talked about Rachel and her new man and what I thought of their relationship.
“I think some people deserve a second chance,” Ty said as he pulled into his driveway.
Instead of trying to figure out if he meant something deeper by that statement, I began to get butterflies, knowing what was coming next.
Tyler got out of the truck and rushed toward my side so he could help me get out.
“Hi.” I looked up at him with a smile on my face. “You’re cute.”
This made his lip twitch.
“Are you drunk, beautiful?”
I shook my head.
“Just a tiny bit tipsy.”
Ty grinned, looking amused at my antics. “Come on, let’s get you to bed.”
Ty took my hand and led me to the back of the house, which led straight to his room. I was extra quiet, trying not to wake up his father. Anticipation coursed through me. It would be the first time we would be together in a bed—aside from sleeping, that was.
Sometimes, drunk thoughts did help you clear out your mind because, at that moment, I knew I was still somewhat bitter about fantasies that would never come true.
In that long list of fantasies, that would never be my first time—or the first time I had envisioned for us. I’m not going to lie and pretend like it didn’t hurt because sometimes I still felt that sting of pain, but it was time to let it all go and feel all the new things that were happening between us.
Tyler let go of my hand, reached into his drawer, and pulled out one of his Kanes’ Auto T-shirts.
“What’s the shirt for?” I asked as I attempted to pull the strings that held my dress together.
“I imagine sleeping in that dress won’t be comfortable.” He said it like it was obvious.
Ignoring him, I did a soft “Aha” when I finally tugged the strings loose.
“Who said anything about sleeping?” I stated boldly as the dress pooled at my feet.
If it weren’t for the look of appreciation on Ty’s face, the way his eyes became hooded and darkened, his words might have caused me to rethink coming here.
“We are not going to be doing anything in your current state,” he said softly as he pulled the shirt over my head.
