I’m still watching the couple when two women step into my line of vision. They seem young, late twenties, and they’re identical twins.

“Hi, you don’t look Portuguese,” the one on my right says.

“That’s cause I’m not,” I tell her.

“My name is Emilia, and this is my sister, Victoria.”

“Nice to meet you,” I say with a grin.

“Is the woman in purple your wife?” Victoria asks.

“No, she’s my girlfriend.”

“Oh,” Victoria says as her eyes gleam with interest.

“What do you say about ditching the party and coming with us?” Emilia asks seductively.

I arch an eyebrow.

“I just said I have a girlfriend.”

“Yes, but you’ll have so much fun with us.”

“Thanks but no thanks.”

Maybe if it was any other day, in any other situation, I might have considered it. But not only do I have a job to do, but my mind and heart are still in knots over Madison.

They frown before walking away. I quickly turn my attention to Vierra, but my eyes widen as I realize he’s gone. He’s nowhere in sight. Then I realize Madison should have been back from the restroom minutes ago.

I suddenly realize that something’s missing. I check my jacket and realize that it’s gone—the tracking device I was supposed to use on Vierra. I remember the way Madison placed her hand on my jacket. She must have taken it.

Panic builds in my gut and climbs up my throat.

What the fuck is she planning to do?!

Chapter 8

“I don’t think we have ever spoken personally, Mr. Vierra,” I say, batting my eyelashes.

The man smiles. He’s short, shorter than me, with brown hair and the smile of a man who knows he can get whatever he wants. I didn’t plan on approaching him this way when I took the device from Dustin. I just figured I had a better chance of mingling with him and somehow getting the device attached to his phone. But then he smiled at me from across the room, all I had to do was smile back, and he was beckoning for me to come closer. He led me outside the ballroom for some fresh air. We had been standing too far apart, though.

“How about we go up to my hotel room? I’ll make sure it is worth your while,” Vierra says with a devious smile.

His gaze hasn’t even left my cleavage long enough for him to see the grimace on my face. I know I shouldn’t even be considering his offer. But then I think about the look on Dustin’s face. This might be my only chance to make it up to him.

“I’m not sure if I should leave though. I came with a date,” I state unsurely.

Vierra smiles.

“Don’t worry. I am a gentleman. I would not hurt you.”

Like I actually believe that.

But I really want to help. I look at Vierra again. His phone is nowhere in sight. I’m guessing it’s in his suit jacket or pants. I can only get him to let down his guard if we’re completely alone. I’m sure I can handle him. If he tries anything, I’ll kick his ass.
