“Well, he’s wrong.”
That caught him off guard. He peered at Olivia, wondering what she meant by her statement, but he didn’t have to wonder long.
“Anyone would be lucky to be your girlfriend.”
Just not you.
“In fact, Cammi has a crush on you.” Olivia let out a laugh as her cheeks flushed.
Roman blinked several times. “She… does?”
Olivia stared down at her toes and tapped them together. “Yeah,” she said quietly. “So, if you end up wanting to take her out…”
“You… wouldn’t be upset?”
Her head snapped up. “What? Of course not.” There was something strange about the way she said it—like she was holding back. “You can take out whoever you want. And Cammi? She’s…great.”
He nodded absently. Then he shuffled his feet. “I suppose we can start planning the breakup, then, huh? Not right away… because Mason will think it’s because of what he said.”
“Right,” she said. “But maybe in a week or so?”
Roman nodded again. “Yeah. That works.”
She smiled, but it didn’t seem to reach her eyes. He placed a palm to her cheek, and for a second, all sense left his head. He opened his mouth to tell her exactly how he felt.
Olivia exhaled, “Roman?” Her whispered question tore him out of his stupor.
He dropped his hand and stepped back. “Goodnight, Liv.”
“Good… night.”

Olivia
Olivia watched Roman walk away, her confession sticking in her throat. Cammi had insisted that Roman was in love with her when they’d gone to the bathroom together. She’d told Olivia that if she’d tell Roman how she felt, Roman would have to admit to his own feelings.
Then they’d have no choice but to decide if what they were feeling was a side effect of their fake dating or if it was real.
Olivia hadn’t dared hope that Cammi was right. But then she’d snuggled close to Roman and had allowed herself to believe they could be something more. Her feelings for Roman had grown and tipped the scales in his favor. The crush she’d had on Mason had only continued to fade over the last several days.
But then Roman had thrown her off balance. He’d uttered the only words that could have stopped her confession from exploding from her like a runaway train.
Mason wants you.
Her head was still reeling.
She remained outside of her apartment in a stupor until a familiar car pulled up. Mason and Cammi were going to head right for her if she didn’t go inside. She fumbled with her keys and managed to get the door shut before she heard their voices outside. It was a short conversation, and then the door opened and Cammi entered.
Her eyes were bright and her smile wide. She glanced around the empty apartment, then back to Olivia. “Is he here?”
“Who?”
“Who? Come on, Liv. You know who. What did he say when you told him? Is he totally in love with you like I said he’d be?”
“He’s ready to stage the breakup.”
Cammi’s smile faltered, and she took a step forward. “He…what?”
