“Are you looking for someone?” I ask.

“Have you seen a girl with blonde hair and purple streaks throughout it?” he asks. “I feel like I need to find her.”

The alpha rubs his chest as he says that, and my eyes narrow.

“Are you Dr. Stewart?” I ask.

Caleb jolts at the name, his green eyes zeroing in on the guy. This probably won’t end well for him. Again, it doesn’t makesense because we should be punching ourselves in our own faces.

It is what it is though.

“I am actually,” the doctor says. “Why does that matter?”

“You’ve been upsetting our girl,” Caleb says, cracking his knuckles. “Why are you looking for her?”

“It feels as if something is wrong with her,” he says, shaking his head. “Why isn’t she seeing a doctor for all of this pain?”

“There’s a patient in the room behind me, and she was beaten badly,” I explain. “She’s Nova’s twin, so we’re feeling that phantom pain. I’m not sure how, and it’s not all the time. She went home to try to get some space between them. Nova thinks that’ll help her from feeling the pain and affecting us.”

“I don’t like it,” Dr. Stewart mumbles. “It really fucking hurts. I want to check on her but I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes.”

“You mean like the way you tried to embarrass Nova when she was doing her job?” I ask her.

“Or how you assumed that she had a female partner?” Caleb chimes in. “You’ll be lucky if Nova doesn’t reject you at this point. You’re a fucking douchebag.”

“I panic around her,” Dr. Stewart complains. “I don’t know what to say, and then I word vomit all over her. To be fair, I’m an asshole on a good day, but I want to be nice to her and I can’t.”

Fuck. That’s relatable.I really don’t want to help him, but it may have to happen. Dammit.

“Shit,” Caleb mutters. We tend to be on the same page on most things. I’m not surprised that we are now as well. “We have the same issue actually.”

“I fucking hate it,” Dr. Stewart growls. Damn, I guess I should get used to calling him Tyde instead. “She delivers babies for fuck’s sake. That’s a very taxing job. So many things can go wrong. I should worship the ground she walks on.”

Ugh. Now I really like him.

“Damn. I guess I can’t kill you,” I grumble.

His eyes widen in shock while I shrug.

“I really did think about it,” I admit. “You’ve really upset her though, so you’re going to have to get her to give you a chance.”

“I’ll do anything,” he growls. “Fuck, are you sure she’s not dying? It really does feel like it.”

“No, she just left,” I promise.

“She told me she’d check in,” Caleb adds. “If she doesn’t, I’ll text her.”

“Good,” Tyde grunts. “I want to see her after my shift. I’m here till four in the morning.”

“Damn,” I mutter. “That’s a rough schedule.”

“It is. I think I pissed someone off, because I’ve been on this schedule for weeks,” he says, grimacing. “I’ll see you around. I got pulled in this direction while I was looking for Nova, but I need to get back to my rounds.”

Caleb and I nod as he leaves, watching as Malcolm walks up to us.

“Did you know Nova left?” he asks.

“Yeah, she said she needed some space,” Caleb explains. “Nova is feeling Hollis’ pain due to proximity. She said that she was going home to try to get some space to mitigate it.”
