Breaking them was fairly smart on John and Louise’ part, but it won’t keep me down. I’ll simply have to be smarter about how I return the favor.
I’m suspicious that a mafia don doesn’t have someone waiting for him outside, but as I slowly open the door, I find the hallway is empty. The hubris of this man is astounding, but it makes sense since he thought he was getting my sister. I need to make sure she gets some kind of self defense training onceI’m done here, because the world is simply too dangerous not to have it.
Walking out of the door while babying my sore hip that’s threatening to riot and pop out of place, I look down each side of the corridor only to find it completely empty.
Pride goeth before the fall.Smirking, I lock the door behind me and close it. Turning right down the hall, I hobble down it in search of the stairs. I doubt that Louise and John would have left without further instruction from Roberto.
Something about their names is irking me. I somehow don’t believe they’re really named what they call each other, but I don’t know what they’re covering up. Hopefully, one of Cian’s hackers is working on this. I have no doubt that he’s already been alerted.
I may incessantly push people away, but I have people who love me, and they will fucking find me. I just need to stay alive until that happens.
The hall remains empty as I get to the stairs, and I wince at the idea of having to climb down them. Sighing, I clench my teeth hard and slam my left hip into the railing, gasping as it shifts back into place. The walking had begun to grind the joint and bones together, which would have made it almost impossible for me to climb down these stairs.
Tears glitter in my eyes as I make my way down, my neck on a swivel as I look for anyone around. The house is full of ugly art and statues, the carpet too expensive for an empty house. It appears to be a show home, where you’re too afraid to touch anything.
My footsteps lead me toward the left, my ears straining to hear voices or breathing. I’m fairly certain this is the basement of the home I was in earlier, simply because it makes the most sense.
As I get toward the back of the house, I hear John and Louise arguing, and my lips twist to the side. I haven’t seen a single person outside of them, and I’m inclined to think that Roberto Domino is hiding that he bought a shiny new toy to rape.
He certainly didn’t tell the woman he was on the phone with as he entered the bedroom I was tied up in, and he didn’t want his sons to know about the level of his depravity. The world is all a stage, and I want to fuck up his legacy.
I am going to plant seeds in his sons’ minds of how awful their father is, hoping that they aren’t at all like him. If I can do that, then maybe I’ll be able to avoid a war with the Domino family.
I don’t regret killing him, but I will feel bad if I’m the reason peace is broken.
Creeping down to the open doorway, I poke my head in to see that they’re actively having a disagreement.
“John, Mr. Domino just went up to see Nova, let the man be,” Louise says.
“I know, but we sent everyone away,” he growls. “He has enemies, woman! He waltzed in here without a care in the world. Mr. Domino didn’t even bring a guard. What if something happens?”
My mouth twists into a smile, wrapping my abused fingers around the gun I’ve been cradling despite the pain. My knife goes into my pocket with the phone carefully and I take off the safety on the Glock in my hands.
Raising the gun while they argue, I stay mostly hidden and take a soundless, cleansing breath. My sight is aimed at John, and I know that I need to work quickly because they’re both just as dangerous.
“We’re both armed and can take care of Mr. Domino’s safety,” Louise sighs. “You just need to chill.”
Firing the gun into John’s chest in a non-kill shot, I chuckle under my breath at her complacent tone.
I am the nightmare, bitch. You just don’t know it yet.
My arms shift to Louise, glaring at her as I shoot her as well. The blood is beginning to flow, and I inhale deeply with a grin.
“Maybe when you kidnap a girl, you should make sure she’s the right twin,” I growl, stepping out from behind the wall to also shoot both of them in the legs so they can’t run.
John gets an extra bullet to the hand for reaching for a weapon, and I leisurely remove it from his pocket and place the gun on a chair far away from him.
Now to check them both completely for weapons so I can have some fun.
Chapter Four
LARS
My eyes don’t believe the words on the screen, but I would know Hollis’ cadence anywhere. My gut says this is her.
“I found her,” I croak out.
No one is listening to me, so I raise my voice.
