The need to bite her is too strong, and I turn my head and indulge myself. There’s a perfect spot right underneath her knee, and I sink my teeth into her skin.
Mine.I’m willing to work to claim her heart, but for now, I’ll gladly claim the rest of her. Her scream as we come together is soloud, I’d be worried she’s going to scream the restaurant down if I cared about what others thought.
My vision whites out as my entire world changes, and I feel the beginnings of our connection forming.
Alpha?
My lips curve possessively as I kiss her skin where I bit her. Nova looks like she’s struggling to figure out what the fuck just happened.
Hey, Little Omega,I whisper through the bond.Welcome to being mine now.
“Shit,” she whispers, but not in a panicked way. We’re stuck together for a little while, so I move her legs so they’re curled around my waist and pick her up so I can hold her. My other hand rubs her back, all while she gazes at me in wonder.
“What are you thinking about?” I ask. I can’t read her right now. There’s too much going on in her head, so the new bond is fuzzy.
“I’m…surprised, and happy…Maybe freaking out a little too?”
“As long as happiness is in that mix, take your time figuring it out,” I tease, kissing her. I haven’t kissed her enough, and that needs to change. My lips don’t simply touch hers, they devour with the intention to suck her soul through it.
The more I get to know her, the more amazed I am. She still scares me because she has big dreams that are tied to happiness, loss, and sadness. As she said, midwifery is a rollercoaster of life’s greatest joys and challenges. The way she loves the little people she has the privilege to deliver and meet during their first breaths can both scar and heal her soul.
It’s her heart that she puts on the line every single day, even if she doesn’t realize it. Nova is a fucking warrior, and I think I’ve finally found a nickname that fits her.
Little Warrior, this was not an accident. I protect and defend what’s mine.
Her lips pull away from mine, her eyes welling with tears.
“Warrior?” she whispers.
“That’s what you are,” I say. “You fight for those that need it. Packs, new moms, and tiny babies. You fight your own demons too. Every day, every breath.”
She tackles me, arms wrapped around my neck as she kisses me hard.
“Oye!” a loud voice yells, knocking on the door. “I’m leaving you bleach wipes to clean the surfaces. You’re lucky the walls are so thick, Lars. Your meal is still free, you know a Finnegan’s money is no good atVino y Vida.”
Nova buries her face in my neck as she smothers a laugh, and I feel my knot finally give up the ghost. I have absolutely no shame, this was worth it.
“I’m leaving your stuff at the door,” Ambrose continues. “I figure neither one of you will be put together enough to make the walk through the restaurant. Corbin has a connected bathroom in his office too. Glad to have been part of one hell of a date.”
My shoulders shake as I laugh silently, shaking my head. It really has been a fantastic date. He’s not wrong there.
“You’ve set quite the bar for dates, Lars,” Nova murmurs.
Fuck yeah I have. Damn, I really am competitive. Oh well.
Chapter Twenty-Four
NOVA
I can’t help smiling as Lars parks behind my car. I’m floating, enjoying the newly fledged bond inside of me.
You feel happy, Little Queen, Tyde murmurs in my head.Come inside and tell me all about it.
“You just smiled bigger,” Lars says. “Tyde’s inside. I see his car.”
“He is,” I say, smiling. “He said I felt happy.”
“Good,” he smirks. “I want to keep you that way. I’ll walk you to the door.”
