“That was fast,” I murmur, allowing them entrance.

“I didn’t want you to get caught,” Morris grumbles as I shut the door behind them.

Walking over to where Dolores is passed out, he injects her with what I assume is a sedative and then Kane throws a body bag down on the ground before helping Morris to stuff her inside.

It’s a tight fit, but it works.

“I think this counts as my gym time,” Kane grunts, his neck muscles straining as Morris and he lift Dolores onto the stretcher.

“Have fun,” I say, peeking my head out to see if the coast is clear.

“Before I forget, here is that recorded clip,” Kane says, sliding his phone out of his pocket to send it to me. “It’s exactly her words and nothing else.”

“Thank you, I’m going to go find the chief of staff so I can escalate this to Human Resources. Just because you’re about to kill her doesn’t make her actions disappear. It just makes me happy that she’s dead,” I shrug.

“You’re so much fun,” Kane says. “Say hello to Nova for me.”

“I definitely will,” I promise, allowing them to pass.

Now, I have to clean up the rest of Dolores’ mess so the next person who takes over her job isn’t a twat.

Chapter Twenty-One

HOLLIS

The Chief of Staff fell over backwards to handle my concerns, and was so upset by the voice clip that he didn’t worry about where Dolores was. Instead, he decided that she’d abandoned her post, so she was fired regardless. They’re hiring someone in house to take over her job.

Walking out of the hospital smugly, I’m greeted by my bodyguard. While Trevor is a mafia son of good stock, he’s a recent transplant from Chicago. Cian said that he’s been wanting to prove himself, and keeping me alive is how he plans to do that.

Lovely. It shows how much I’ve been worrying the old man.

“Everything okay?” he asks, falling into step with me. His blonde hair has darker streaks throughout it, and I wonder if it’s natural or not.

“It is now,” I murmur. “I need to get to the office.”

“Yes, ma’am,” he says, walking me to the waiting SUV. I think that the bulletproof glass is a little over the top, but I suppose it’s better to be safe than sorry. My life is usually quieter than it has been recently.

Getting comfortable, I watch as Trevor gets in next to me.

“Next stop is her office,” he says to Briar. Yes, I have a female driver and I love that.

Nodding, she eases away from the hospital while I check my phone. I respond to emails, texts, and make a note to check Omega’s Link for anything important. I’ve been healing and playing house, but now it’s time to be aware of my surroundings.

Once we arrive at my office, Trevor walks me inside and then leaves. He’ll be watching from the SUV for any signs that I need his or Briar’s help, but I don’t think I need him in my place of business and Cian agreed.

For now.

Taking in a deep breath, I turn my laptop on and plug my phone in to charge. Logging into Omega’s Link, I begin scrolling for any important news or blogs while I also listen to voicemails. Most are people with questions for me or providing feedback about their previous dates, and I take notes for each one as I go. Thankfully, there are only twelve to listen to, allowing me to turn my full attention back to the website.

Emilia has dropped a few podcasts, and I listen to them from beginning to end before giving the screen my middle finger and continuing on. I plan to start the ball rolling toward her demise. The hyperfixation has its claws in me, and won’t be happy until I handle it.

The Little Rabbit has a recent podcast, and I sigh as I hit play, leaning back in my chair. I haven’t been interrupted yet, but I have a feeling that could change at any moment.

“A little birdie told me that someone related to a member at ROWS is getting ready to blow up the entire organization?—”

“Thank fuck,” I sigh. Gwen Lauren is actually going to do the right thing. I can’t imagine this could be anyone else. I hope it’ll be soon, but I did tell her to message The Little Rabbit to find out everything about ROWS and Emilia.

My gut feeling tells me this is Gwen. I’ll go with that until proven otherwise.
