I laughed. “That sounds like a great plan. Let me give Brystol a quick call and see how she’s doing.”

He nodded. “I’ll text Declan and Kian.”

Stepping out of the gym, I made my way to the courtyard and hit Brystol’s number. I smiled the instant I heard her voice.

“Hey, I thought you were going to work out with James?”

“We weren’t in the mood. James suggested seeing if Declan and Kian wanted to meet for a few beers. I wanted to check in and see how you’re feeling.”

“That was sweet of you,” she said. “Things have been busy here today, which is great.”

“How was your run?”

“Much needed.”

I glanced around to make sure I was alone. “Have you heard from Evelyn?”

She exhaled. “Yes, she’s texted a few times, and in the last one, she said she’d leave me alone until I was ready to talk to her. I feel bad for what I said this morning, Gavin. I didn’t truly mean it. I don’t regretsayingit, but…she’s driving me crazy.”

“Have you considered contacting the clinic or the person you had to do your counseling sessions with? Maybe they can offer some advice on what you should do? I’m sure this isn’t the first time something like this has occurred.”

“You know, I didn’t even think about that. It’s a great idea. I may take a quick break and give them a call. If I’m lucky, the counselor I saw might be able to speak with me on the phone.”

“That would be nice.”

“Thank you for being here for me. And for the suggestion about the counselor.”

“I told you I want to be here for you throughout this process.”

“Yes, you did,” she said. I could hear the smile in her voice. “Have fun with the guys.”

I cleared my throat. “Um, can I stop by afterward?”

She let out a soft chuckle. “I would love for you to stop by. I’ll be home in my comfy sweats, probably reading. After this busy day, I’ll be ready to just relax.”

I grinned. “I bet I can come up with a few suggestions to help you relax.”

“Is that so? I hope it includes a massage. My feet are killing me for some reason, and I need to be in top form tomorrow.”

James walked out the door and gave me a thumbs-up.

“I’ll massage you wherever you’d like. And I won’t stay long tonight.”

“If I fall asleep, just come on in. I put the code to my door in your phone, under my contact.”

Smiling, I replied, “I saw that. Does this mean I should give you a key to my place?”

“Only if you want to.”

“Consider it done. James is waiting for me. Don’t work too hard, and I’ll see you later.”

“Be safe, and see you later, Gavin.”

“Bye, Bry.”

I ended the call and made my way over to James, who was smiling.

“What are you smiling for?”
