“Who is Marcie?”

“Our chef and maid.”

“Does she bathe you and brush your teeth for you too?” Six teased.

“She been around since I was like ten years old. She’s part of the family. There’s a guest house in the back where she lives and everything. You fuck with Marcie and you got a problem with me. She loves what she does, and she definitely don’t mind doing shit for me. Plus, I got her grandson a job, something legit he can work while he’s in college. I’m an angel in her eyes.”

“Mmm, seems like Kiara sees you the same way,” Six mumbled, a tinge of jealousy in her tone that piqued my interest.

I licked the Backwood to prep for rolling, and Six clicked away on the remote until she came up on the Discovery app.

“She cool. I admire anybody taking care of their seed on their own. I hooked her up with a few employment opportunities, and I think she feel like she owe a nigga or something.”

“Oh, she wants to pay up,” Six insinuated.

“You jealous?” I simpered when she swung her head my way.

“Hell no.”

“Yeah, lemme find out.” Snickering, I sprinkled the blunt with weed and tucked it to roll when she settled onBeat Bobby Flay. “This my shit.”

“I’m more of aGuy’s Grocery Gamesgirl.”

“Yeah, Guy is cool too.” I kicked my feet up.

The two of us sat there getting high, snacking, and talking shit while watching cooking shows until Six was yawning and checking her phone screen. Stretched out on one side of the couch with her legs intertwined with mine on the opposite side, we were both on some unwind time. I’d given her a big t-shirt and some of my briefs to sleep in since it was obvious she wasn’t going back to the lodge tonight. Nothing was forced, and I dug that. I wasn’t even sweating her over the pussy because in my mind, that shit was already sealed, it was just a matter of time. Learning she was a virgin was a surprise, but I was determined to be her first and her muhfucking last.

“Hey, who is this chick, Bella?” she asked, leaning forward and grabbing some leftover popcorn from a bowl and feeding herself.

“Bella, from GloWorks?”

“Yeah, looks like it.” She sat up, studying her phone display. “She sent me a message and said she had some products to send me.”

“Oh, she’s one of my sponsors. Actually, she has a red-carpet event coming up that we should be seen at.”

“Brick, my DMs are flooded with people wanting to send me shit so I can be an ambassador.” Six looked up at me expectantly.

“Take that shit.” I shrugged. “I do it. It’s free shit and you look good. All they want is an influential face rocking their brand. You get a bag every month for that too.”

“For real?” She tapped away at her screen.

I was just hoping Bella kept it professional and stayed in pocket. The last thing I needed was her on the bullshit when me and Six was just getting this shit popping.

“You rocking with me now, mama. This is just the beginning.” I gave her foot a squeeze and watched her lean back, completely entranced by her screen.

She didn’t even know I was watching her as she nervously bit on her nail. I thought it was adorable how hype she was behind all this. Most women were out here breaking their necks for the kind of branding she was getting just off the strength of fucking with me. The world might not know GirlSix, but they would soon enough because I was that dude in any city. Everybody wanted to party with Brick Marek.

Cambrie

“Hi. I’m Cambrie Rhodes. They called me about my daddy, Carlos Rhodes.”

I was sure I broke a few speeding laws on my way to the facility. The whole time my palms were sweaty and it felt like I would throw up. Like always, I regretted that I wasn’t taking care of my dad full time. It made me feel like a bad daughter. I was all he had. None of our other family ever stepped up or checked on us. When my mama died, any connection to her side went with her. I don’t know what was wrong with those people, but they didn’t behave like family, and I understood why my mama kept her distance from them. The lady behind the greeting desk clicked away on her keyboard a few times and studied her computer screen.

“Yeah, it looks like they have him in exam room five. Let me give you a visitor’s pass.” She grabbed a sticker and slid it across the counter to me. “I just need you to sign in right there.” She pointed to a clipboard to my left.

“Thank you.” I snatched the sticker off the paper and stuck it on my hoodie after scribbling my name on the visitor’s log.

“Just go down the hall there and make a right. The exam room has a number outside the door.”
