Idecided to go upstairs and shower and make myself presentable since Brick insisted on going live soon. Using the phone he provided, I saw that he’d already downloaded all the social media apps and created a profile for me on them. GirlSix was my handle across all platforms, and it made me smile. He’d given it some thought.
“I guess Brick is growing on you.” Kiara approached with her daughter when I reached the staircase, and instantly, my head popped up.
“Something like that. Is that going to be a problem?”
“No. Not at all. I mean, he ain’t my nigga.” Kiara shook her head, a little too adamant if you ask me. “I just want you to be careful. Brick’s been good to me and my daughter, but he’s a ladies’ man at heart. I mean, he just went live before he came here and was on a date with some girl.”
I guess she thought that little tidbit of information was going to turn me off. Brick was honest if nothing else when talking to me. I damn sure didn’t think he was a Boy Scout. Of course, women were constantly throwing themselves at him. He had everything a regular ass bitch would want on the surface. Iwasn’t interested in that. Getting that bag and being able to take care of myself was priority.
“Hmm. Good to know. It’s not like that though.” I reached for the handrail to start up the steps.
“So if you don’t really like him, why even entertain him?”
“Girl, he likes me.” I shrugged. “Who am I to turn down his attention? Would you?”
Something flickered behind her gaze before she forced a smile over her lips. Clearly she had a little crush, but that wasn’t for me to give one damn about. Brick was being nice to her and her daughter, but he didn’t seem to hold any other type of interest in her.
“I guess not.” She laughed and bowed her head. “You right, and he is just one in a sea of niggas with money.”
“Exactly.”
“Well, don’t forget about me when he upgrades your entire life and you start kicking it in VIP,” Kiara joked.
“Oh girl, we can turn the fuck up… on his dime,” I added, laughing with her.
“Mommy, I’m sleepy.” Her daughter tugged at her shirt and yawned.
“Okay, let’s go to bed, baby girl.” She scooped her into her arms, and we started up the steps. “See you later, Six.”
“Goodnight,” I told her, using my key card to access my room.
I changed into a salmon-colored short pajama set Sol left for me earlier after showering and brushing my teeth. Once I wrapped up my skincare routine on my face, I applied a coat of gloss to my plush lips. I climbed into my bed. When I checked the clock, I saw that it was almost that time. A text message came through, and Brick had saved himself asThe Onein my phone. Scoffing, I couldn’t help but shake my head. He really was full of himself.
The One: You ready, ugly?
Me: Far from that. Don’t let the bruises fool you!
The One: You got it, gorgeous. (wink emoji)
That made me smile and sent little flutters to my stomach, which I swiftly reminded myself to get over. I was able to cover up my eye with the makeup Sol provided, but I also had a pair of shades to rock. Pulling my lace frontal up into a messy bun, I wasn’t trying to put on for nobody. He said to keep it real, so that’s what I was going to do. The notification sounded off, letting me know he’d gone live, and I was going to wait for him to get comfortable before requesting to join him.
“What’s up y’all?” Brick’s fine ass popped up in the camera.
He was shirtless, showing off a chest full of tattoos and a simple gold link chain with a diamond M medallion hanging to his abs. This man was sexy, simpering into the camera with one arm draped over his head as he leaned back into a couch. He swiped his beard and licked his lips before bringing a fat blunt to them and taking a pull.
“I got a question for the ladies out there. What happened to letting a man lead? Why y’all always gotta be popping off and shit, trying to act all tough? ’Cause I don’t believe in hitting women, let me say that. I will beat a bitch ass though.” He chuckled and squinted at the camera as comments started rolling in.
A lot of men were agreeing, but the women were going off.
“See, then you want to call a nigga toxic and abusive, but what you call bitches that do the same thing? I’ve run into some violent hoes in my day. I’m either running into airheads, clout chasers, or fucking gold diggers.”
That was my queue. I hit the button to request to join him, and I saw something flicker in his gaze when his lips curled into a soft grin.
“Oh shit, looks like somebody got something to say. I’ll bite. I got time today.” He accepted my request, and soon my image took up the bottom half of his screen. “What’s up, GirlSix? You got something on your mind?”
“Why is the blame constantly being placed on the woman for reacting to the lack of men in this world? Y’all supposed to be the leaders, right? Head of house? If that’s the case, why are there so many women still out here in survival mode?”
That’s the girl from the live!
