“Shit wasn’t planned. With Damaris, I don’t know, she was cool. We were just friends with benefits, and I slipped up. She never wanted to be a mother, but I couldn’t let her abort my seed. I told her I would take care of it when the time came. She agreed and went about her life. I haven’t heard from her since Piaget was like two. Then came Cyra. Crazy as hell, a real good fucking time, and down for whatever.”
“No explanation needed on that one. I saw her. Rogue bad as hell though.”
“At the end of the day, they part of me so I can’t turn my back on ’em. Some days are good, but I know between working and hustling I didn’t put in as much time as I should have with them. Saga has a temper, and his teachers always calling home about his behavior and acting out. Tavi too smart for her own damn good. She’s a good student, but she can’t stand taking orders. Piaget is probably a little ADHD or something because she’s usually all over the place and can go through a range of emotions in a matter of minutes. My baby sleepwalks too and has nightmares. Then there’s Rogue, who’s also with the shit because as soon as his feet hit the floor in the morning, he takes off.”
“Shit might not be perfect, but it sounds like your kids know you love ’em and you there for them though,” Brick acknowledged.
“Moving here wasn’t an option a month ago, but I am glad to get them out of the city.”
“Muthafucka,” Brick whispered, studying his phone screen as he got a notification.
“What’s up?” I raised my glass and tossed back my other shot.
“Man, this fucking live I did earlier got everybody commenting on my shit.” He sucked his teeth.
“What happened?”
“I was with Ma at work, and she got this new chick that checked in. Bitch was talking sideways to a nigga. Look at this shit.” He turned his phone to face me so I could view the video playing.
Whoever the girl was, she wasn’t in the video, but I could hear her voice. I couldn’t help but laugh at the footage while he shook his head and scowled.
“That social media shit is wild. It’s like another world. I don’t know how you do that shit.”
“Well, I’m about to use it to my advantage. Armon came up with a game plan so I can find a bitch, date her for a little bit, marry her, and knock her ass up.”
“Nigga, you crazy.”
“I’m dead ass. He putting the promo video together to reveal tomorrow. Instead of shooting a whole new video he said he had an idea.”
“You about to attract every gold digging, dick swallowing hoe within city limits,” I told him, shaking my head.
“I know, huh?” A salacious grin filled his cheeks when he peeked up from his phone.
Looking past him, I saw that Cambrie was coming up behind from the hallway. I liked how she moved with confidence. She was dumb thick, but baby was toned in all the right places at the same time. I could tell from the muscles in her legs that she worked out regularly. Her hips flowed with ease, and that ass was visible from the front. My son was right about one thing, that thang was big and round.
“You good?” I checked with her straightening up as she sauntered into the room.
“Yeah. I’m unpacked and I reached the principal. He said he can slot you in for nine a.m. on Monday if that works for you. You’ll need to bring all their birth certificates and shot records, plus a phone number for their last schools so that they can have their transcripts sent over, and a check, of course, for tuition.”
Brick immediately perked up when he heard her soft voice. Licking his lips, he grinned and sat up in his chair.
“Damn. Who is you?” The nigga was practically drooling.
“Brick, this is Cambrie, the nanny. Cambrie, this is my little brother, Brick,” I declared.
“Nice to meet you,” she said, smiling.
“Fa sho.” Brick winked at her before swinging his head in my direction, being all extra and cocking a brow.
I knew exactly what he was thinking.
“Pizza’s here!” Saga yelled from the front of the house.
“I can finish the cleanup in here if you want to feed them,” she suggested.
“Let me make sure they straight and I’ll be back.” I nodded.
“Bro, where her fine ass come from?” Brick slid off his chair and followed me through the house.
