They each grabbed a chair at the table.Glenna immediately snagged a grape and popped it into her mouth.
“This is lovely,” she said.“And you’re all quite the lively bunch.”
“We try,” Meg said, laughing.“You ladies local?”
“Ha!No,” Dottie replied.“We’re from Mankato.Minnesota born and raised. We come here every year.Flamingo Inn is tradition.”
“Girls’ trip,” Glenna added and sipped from a water bottle.“We’re sisters.Widowed.And completely unchaperoned.”
“Well, you picked the right week,” I said and raised my brows.“You might regret it by the time we’re done.”
Dottie gave Wrecker a slow once-over.“I already don’t regret it.”
Wrecker choked on his water, and Meg actually snorted.
“We appreciate the eye candy,” Glenna said with a wink.
Dottie patted Wrecker’s arm.“Don’t worry, sugar.I only ogle.”
“We’re gonna get along just fine,” Greta said and slid a drink toward Dottie.
“What’s in this?”she asked.
“Magic.And vodka.Mostly vodka,” Greta whispered.
Dottie sipped, made a face, and then took another.“Yup.We’re staying.”
And just like that, Glenna and Dottie became honorary members of the chaos.
Meg
The bathroom tile was cold under my bare feet as I tucked a stray tendril of hair into my purple mop of hair that was twisted high on top of my head.My face was clean, and I’d slipped into the ridiculous pale lavender muumuu I’d picked up last month because it looked comfortable as hell, and it was.
It was also ugly.
Still loved it, though.
But after a full day of driving, laughing, floating, and drinking punch out of plastic buckets with flamingos on them, I didn’t give a single damn.
I flipped the bathroom light off and padded out into our room. The curtains were drawn, the room dim, and Lo was already stretched out in bed with his shirt off, remote in hand, and scrolling through some random hotel TV channels with a blank look.
With a sigh, I dropped down next to him.“Turn the lights off,” I muttered and rolled onto my side.
“You were just right next to the damn light switch, babe,” he grumbled.
I snuggled deeper into the pillow.“I forgot.”
Lo let out a dramatic groan, but he got up anyway. He padded to the door to double-check the lock, flipped off the lights, and crawled back into bed.A second later, his arm slid around my waist and pulled me into his warmth.
I melted into him with a happy sigh.“That was a fun night one,” I whispered into the dark.“Six more to go.”
“Life is always interesting when you and the girls from the Fallen Lords get together,” he murmured. His breath was warm on my neck.
“I think you mean life is always interesting with me around.”
Lo let out a huff of laughter.“Touché.”
I rolled onto my back to look at him.Even in the dim light, I could see the outline of his scruffy jaw and tired smile.
