Anthony stands. “I need to get going, but my wife and I will definitely be back in a few weeks. She’s excited to meet you.”
“I’m excited to meet her too. Her art is beautiful.”
“Oh, she’s already working you into the schedule at the gallery, so you better get working on your showcase. She’s obsessed with the works she’s already seen.”
Daisy jumps from her chair. “Oh my gosh. Really? Wait. What did she see?”
I interject, ticking them off on my hand one by one. “The painting of Ash and Lex, the one of Willow, the one of Elizabeth, and the one downstairs.”
Her cheeks turn crimson. “You sent her pictures?”
“I sent them a few hours ago,” I admit honestly.
“Danielle is obsessed with them,” Anthony adds, hoping to help me out. “She’s excited to see what you can do now that you’re ready to show the world.”
Daisy laughs at that. “You’re a little pushy, aren’t you?”
“I like to rush right into things. You should never think about anything too long.” He gives her a quick kiss on the cheek and then turns to shake my hand. “I’ll be in touch.”
“I’ll walk you out.”
I leave JD and Daisy to talk. Jesse is there if she needs her, but I have a feeling I’m about to see just how special my girl is.
Chapter Thirty-Six
Daisy
My stomach turns as I listen to the story JD tells me about Elizabeth.
“She’s in that room right now?”
He nods sadly. “She thinks she failed you.”
I take a deep breath. “I’m really sorry for whatever you went through that made you build something like that.”
His brows twitch and he pulls his head back.
“I’m glad it helps you … and her.”
His head falls as he tries to hide his emotions.
“But I don’t want her to be alone in the dark anymore.”
He lifts his tear-filled eyes.
“Let’s go break her out of there.”
His hand swipes down his face and he stares at me. “You’d be willing to go over there and talk to her?”
“Of course I will.”
JD’s gaze bounces between Jesse and me.
“You’ve got to be tired. It’s late. I can’t ask that of you. Not after what you’ve been through today.”
I roll my eyes. “Oh, do you think she’s sleeping?”
He laughs lightly. “No. I’m worried aboutyousleeping.”
