He helps me into it before kissing me.

The club erupts into a chorus of cheers, but then he whistles again, silencing everyone. Brody reaches into the pocket of his cut, and pulls out a box. When he drops to one knee, I almost pass out.

Oh my god.

“I’ll never love anyone more than you. I want you to be my old lady on the road, my friend during the day, and my lover every night. I want you to be my wife. Will you marry me, Daisy?”

Someone lets out a little sob nearby.

I fall to my knees and take his scruffy face in my hands. “Yes, I want all of that and more.”

He wipes my tears from my eyes before kissing me. When he pulls away, he places the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen on my hand.

The club is truly in an uproar now. They’re banging on the tables and yelling out congratulations. The other old ladies rally around me, all wanting a glimpse of the ring.

Lexie hugs me tight. “Oh my god. I’m so happy for you.”

“I thought you and Ash would be gone by now,” I say, hugging her tight.

“Brody let his friends in on his plan for tonight. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.” She pulls Elizabeth to her side. “Look at her ring, isn’t it beautiful?” she asks her.

Elizabeth takes my hand in hers. “It’s very pretty. Congratulations, Daisy. Brody is really a good man. You couldn’t have picked better.”

I wrap my fingers around hers and pull her to the side, away from all the noise. “I wanted to thank you.”

She pulls her head back, confused.

“For being at the beach that day. Brody said you were the reason he was there, and when you gave me the necklace you found, that’s when he noticed me. It’s all because of you.”

Her hand rubs over her chest. “Oh, I can’t take credit.”

My gaze rests on Brody. “You told me that day that an angel was nearby. You were right … it was Brody. He’s my angel.”

Tears pool in the bottom of her eyes.

“Why don’t you and your husband come over for supper tomorrow? I’d love to get to know you better. Brody talks so highly of you both.”

She nods, tears rolling down her cheeks.

“Good.” I give her a hug and she relaxes, hugging me back.

It feels good. For the first time in my entire life, I feel like I’m right where I’m supposed to be.

Chapter Twenty-Six

Brody

My gaze roams over her as she sits in the sun, staring at the ring on her finger. Her dainty hand tips from side to side, and her brows pull together. She’s been at it for two hours.

Her canvas remains blank in front of her.

I glance at the ingredients she has set out on the table. She’s making dinner for JD and Elizabeth tonight.

My attention goes back to her. Daisy was so happy last night. We came home, and I made love to her. No kinky stuff, just straight up adoration for her and her body.

I’d never felt so connected to another person, and I’m pretty sure she felt the same. But this morning she’s acting strange. Distant. She’s struggling with something.

At first I thought it was because I moved too fast with my proposal. But after watching her out the window all morning, I sense it’s something else. I have the same dread in the pit of my stomach that I had the day I found her in Reno.
