“We’re not here because of me. We are here because of him.” I nod my head toward Brody. “He loves hard, doesn’t he?”

Raffe sits back in his chair, pushing his finger and thumb in his eyes as he speaks. “She was so happy when Jackson found Willow. Rachel knows she’s leaving her son with someone who will love him as much as she does. She’s been praying every night since then for Brody to find the same. She’ll leave this world a little more peaceful knowing he’s finally found it.”

“Her love made today even more special,” I tell him.

He nods in agreement, unable to speak.

Chapter Forty-Three

Brody

Elizabeth sits down beside me as I grumpily watch every one of my brother’s dance with my wife. “Whoever thought up the dollar dance with the bride should be butchered,” I joke.

“Did you think any of the guys would give up their one opportunity to dance with such a pretty girl?” she teases back.

The song ends and Elijah quickly rushes toward Daisy for his turn, but not before taunting me on his way over.

“Fucker,” I mumble under my breath.

She laughs.

I glance at her, still thrown by how I didn’t see their resemblance earlier.

Her amusement fades, and she turns serious. “I’m sorry I didn’t come to you, Brody.”

“We’re good.”

“Are we though?”

I look away from her. “I’ll admit I was angry at first, but I understand you didn’t know about her uncle. You thought she was safe, and honestly, I did too.”

“Do you remember the conversation we had where you were telling me about the “right girl, wrong time?” I told you that if you were interested in my daughter, I would consider it a blessing. I meant that shit, Brody.”

It makes me run a hand over my face. “I love her, Elizabeth. I love her so much it hurts sometimes.”

Her gaze roams the crowd as she fights back tears. “Thank you for bringing her home.”

Jackson whistles, drawing the attention of everyone.

I lean over and whisper to Elizabeth, “She thought she got one over on me with this whole surprise wedding, and she did, but I’ve had a little surprise of my own in the works.”

Jackson begins speaking, and she turns to listen to him. “It’s time to say goodbye to our lovely newlyweds.”

Daisy’s gaze finds mine, her brows pulling together in confusion. She’s wondering why our night is coming to an end so soon.

“They have a plane to catch, so let’s get them out of here!” he yells.

“I gotta get my wife, because nobody is carrying her out of here but me!” I yell, jumping to my feet.

I have her swooped up and in the parking lot before anyone gets a chance to harass either of us.

Everyone follows behind, cheering and whistling. I set her in the passenger side of the truck and rush around, jumping in beside her, but Lexie opens her door before I can get us out of here.

She hugs Daisy, and then they wrap pinkies. “Send me pictures,” she says excitedly.

“I have no idea where we’re going, but I promise.” They hug each other one more time before Lexie steps back and closes the door.

Daisy turns to look at me. “What was Jackson talking about? Where are we going? How?”
