“I’ve rested enough,” I growl. “It’s been three days.”
“You really are the worst patient.” She shakes her head and stands back to assess me. “You look much better than you did.”
“There, see? I’m good as new or better even, because now I glow.” I wink at my wife. I love saying that to myself and out loud.
Luna laughs. “I think this magick thing has gone to your head. Who knows if you’ll be able to perform any real magick? Maybe glowing is your new skill.”
“Maybe,” I agree, “but I’m good with that.”
Luna’s cell goes off, and she glances at the screen. “Esme. I think she and Morwenna are coming by sometime later tonight.” She answers the phone and moves out to the hallway.
I try not to laugh. She forgets that I can still hear her, and being out there disturbs me just as much as if she were in the room, so there’s no point in leaving. I sink a little deeper into my pillows. I raise my hand, and the blood bag Carson loaded into the ice bucket earlier flies into my hand. I rip it open and finishit in a few gulps. I flick my fingers, and the bag flies over to the garbage can across the room.
I joked with Luna, but I know already that I have magickal power and it’s strong. It runs through me like electricity. I feel it in every pore. I can see why my mother wanted this. It makes me feel invincible, but it also scares the hell out of me. It’s something I will have to be very careful with. Morwenna is right, I need to learn how to use my newfound power properly.
I sigh. I’m feeling much better. Much stronger. One more day and I will be back to one hundred percent for sure. I’m about ninety percent now. I hear Luna wrapping up the call and smile. One more night. I might have to take advantage of that.
“So,” Luna says as she comes back into the room, “they’ll be here later tonight to discuss everything with you and start some training.”
“Us… to discuss everything withus. You are a part of my life now. There are no secrets.” Except the magick. No need to scare Luna just yet. The enormity of my power scares me. I’m afraid I’ll lose her if she finds out everything I can do. I’ve only just scratched the surface, and I’m afraid to find out myself.
Luna smiles. “What would you like to do until they arrive? Would you like a nap or?—"
I lunge at her, grabbing her and then pulling her onto the bed and rolling over on top of her. “I think I’ve been patient enough,” I say. “You are what I want right now.”
Her soft sigh is the only encouragement I need, and I lower my head to take her lips. I put all the emotion I can into the kiss. My sorrow for not being at the vampire council with her. My relief that she is forever in my life. My joy at discovering how much I love this woman, and even greater joy at how much she loves me.
“Oh, Nico,” she sighs when I release her lips. “I didn’t know how much I loved you until I nearly lost you. I was foolish andtried to hold on to my way of life, when a better choice was a life with you.”
I nuzzle her neck, then tongue my way back to her jaw until my mouth hovers over hers. “I love the idea of life with you.” I hold her lips for long moments, then lift my head. “I never realized before how alike we are. Our parents used us to achieve their goals, without asking what we wanted. My mother sold me to the devil, as did yours.”
She nods and a tear slips free of the corner of one of her eyes.
I kiss it away. “I promise you, there will never be a repeat of history between us. You are mine, and I”—I grab one of her hands and press it over my heart—“will forever be yours.”
A tingle of current flows between the point of contact on my chest. I couldn’t identify if it originated with me and flowed into her, or vice versa. But the pulse between us is sweet, and electric, and charged with emotion.
“I love you, Nico.” Her eyes search mine, a light glitter in them.
“I love you, my wife.” I caress her cheek and then draw my hand down further until I cup her breast.
Luna shifts until she is beneath me, legs straddled around my hips, her sweet heat wrapped around my cock.
I help her remove her dress and panties, and she helps free me from my boxer briefs and as I slide into her body, I’m transported.
She meets each of my thrusts with soft words of love and encouragement, her hips cradling my body. I’ve never been in love before, so emotion has never played into my sexual relationships. But now, each sensation is new, and my heart rejoices with this woman. My wife. My love.
“Nico,” Luna pants, her hands grasping my biceps as I plunge into her. “We’re glowing.”
My palms are planted on the bed, and as I roll up over her, in her, I lift higher and see what she is talking about. There is a pale pinkish glow surrounding us. And as her muscles work my cock, and I close in on my own orgasm, the light intensifies to a deep red. The color of passion.
The color of love.
My love for her will be never-ending. We will always have this between us.
CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE
The air is soft and still as I walk across the terrace, moonlight reflecting off the edges of the balustrade beneath my hands. The scent of jasmine wraps around me. I breathe in deeply and let out a small sigh. There’s salt in the air too, faint but sharp—I can taste it on my tongue.
