“You think this is funny?” I grunt under my breath before telling Daisy to get down.

Lily laughs louder when our dog refuses to listen.

I carefully slide out from underneath Daisy and roll on top of Lily. She squeals when I rub my slobbery cheek against hers.

“Stop!”

“Only if you promise to never let her onto the bed again.” I have to draw the line somewhere, and this is a hard limit.

“It’s only that she looked so lonely sleeping all by herself.”

“She’ll learn to manage.”

“Should we get her a sibling?”

My eyes pop, and Lily laughs again. “I’m joking!”

Daisy flops onto her back and shows us her belly. WhenLily reaches over to scratch it, I snatch her hand back and hold it above her head.

“No encouraging her,” I say.

“But look how cute she is.” Lily pops her bottom lip out.

“For someone who claims they’re not a morning person, you sure are wide awake.”

“I blame your snoring.”

I gape openly at her. “I do not snore.”

She raises a brow. “Are you sure about that?”

Well, I’m not inviting people into my bed, so I can’t confirm with absolute certainty?—

“Relax.” She kisses my jaw. “You sleep like a baby.”

“How would you know?”

She winks.

“Creep,” I say with a smile, because for some insane reason, I like the idea of her watching me. It makes me feel less guilty about doing the same earlier.

She checks the clock on the nightstand before jumping out of bed. “I need to get going before my mom wakes up!”

And just like that, our night together comes to an end.

I’m certain Lily cursed me, because as soon as I return to the house after dropping her off at hers, I instantly want her to come back. Clearly I’m not the only one who feels that way as Daisy drops to her belly in front of the door and lets out a whine.

I snap a photo and attach it to a message.

Me

Someone misses you.

She doesn’t answer right away, so I head to the kitchen to clean up the mess I made this morning while I wait.

When my phone vibrates against the counter, I rush to check the new text.
