That sucked the levity out of the room. The curved ceiling suddenly felt too close.
“Don’t think about it. That’s my plan,” Dean said brashly. “Avoidance. It’s healthy.”
“Hard to think of anything else.”
“Where’s the weirdest place you’ve ever had sex?”
“What?” Tyler exclaimed, his voice echoing around the cedar-lined room. “Are you enjoying this? The sauna? Because I’m not.”
“It’s supposed to be cleansing. Answer me. Humor me.”
If Tyler had thought Dean seemed like a lion earlier, it was nothing compared to the slumberous, prowling purr in his voice now.
“You first.”
“A laser tag game.”
“Oh. Wow. Okay. That’s… interesting. Who with?”
“Leo.” Dean studied Tyler for an extended beat. “Well, and Robin Erco and Wren Rebello and a few strangers. It was during the between time.”
“What’s the between time?” Tyler had so many questions.
“The time between when Leo and Rosie dated in high school and when they reconnected after her divorce.”
“Why did you tell me it was ‘during the between time?’” Tyler asked. “Why does that matter?”
A furrow appeared between Dean’s eyebrows. “I didn’t want you to think Leo had cheated. It was before they were together.”
“But don’t you all—” Tyler stopped. He was adult enough to understand that couples had rules and agreements about sex, and he needed to keep his mouth shut.
“Leo doesn’t fool around with other people unless Rosie is involved too,” Dean said, answering the question Tyler couldn’t ask. “And vice versa. Did you see us fucking on the balcony last night?”
Tyler was shocked at the frankness but managed to give a quick nod. He didn’t want to get into that. He felt embarrassed and inexperienced enough. “Yep. Sorry. I didn’t mean to spy. It was an accident. So how did you have sex during laser tag?”
The quick bypass of the balcony conversation seemed to turn a lot of wheels in Dean’s brain. Tyler hated the tense silence.
“Mainly with my mouth. I’m good at that,” Dean said, his voice gruff. “And you don’t have anything to apologize for. We were practically begging to be seen by doing it out in the open.”
Tyler’s body was betraying him. The sex talk. The way Dean was staring.
“A kitchen. That’s my weirdest. An old ex’s kitchen. Years ago.” They’d been trying to spice things up, and it had seemed very naughty. To Tyler at least.
“That’s not weird at all,” Dean said.
“Maybe not for you!”
“You need some depraved friends to corrupt you,” Dean said. “Someone to take you to the weird places.”
Yes. That sounded… Wow.
“I don’t think so,” Tyler said. “I… I’m probably fine. I’m not really… you know…”
“I don’t know. You’re not reallywhat?” Dean said. His voice was so low that Tyler leaned toward him to hear him better.
“Adventurous.”
“What’s your kinkiest fantasy?” Dean asked. He had that boyish smile on his face. The one that felt like a tease.
