“Wow.” That was all Amanda could manage. “Just wow.”

Wren grinned and took a slinky step her way, pinning her against the sink. In her tall heels, Wren was Amanda’s height.

“I don’t want to mess up your makeup,” Wren whispered, her lips barely ghosting over Amanda’s.

“It’s supposed to be kiss-proof.”

Wren took that for the permission it was, kissing Amanda sweetly. Amanda couldn’t keep her hands off Wren, slipping them inside the crop top and fingering along the lace cups of Wren’s bra.

“Oh!” Rosie was standing in the doorway to the bathroom, which had been left wide open.

“Oops.” Wren took a subtle step back, and Amanda’s hands fell off her body.

“Ha! Leo owes me ten bucks.”

Amanda’s face flamed, and she could feel the stickiness of her lipstick smeared on the edges of her mouth. What a marketing lie!

“How did you know?” Wren asked her. Wren had pulled on a rakish smile that seemed like a mask to Amanda.

“A hot fling with your hot friend from California. I mean …” Rosie smiled.

“That’s very me,” Wren said.

“Yeah.”

They both laughed, but she could tell Wren’s was brittle

“Thanks for calling me hot,” Amanda said, trying to change the subject.

“Well, I’ve got eyes,” Rosie said matter-of-factly.

Amanda went about fixing her kiss-messy makeup, and Wren and Rosie left the bathroom to snack on food they’d ordered from room service. When Amanda returned to the sitting area, the mood felt more normal, and her face was no longer hot as an oven.

“I brought two dresses,” she said. “I’m not sure which to wear.”

“Fashion show, fashion show!” Wren chanted, waving a shrimp with cocktail sauce on its end.

“Okay. Honest opinions only,” Amanda said.

“Deal.”

Amanda jogged upstairs and quickly removed the hotel robe she’d been wearing. The first dress was a green silk wrap dress. It was from this decade, unlike her other one, and accentuated her curves. She skipped back downstairs to show it off.

“That’s beautiful,” Rosie said. “Really accentuates your figure.”

“Thank you.”

Wren smiled. “I like it. Now show us the other!”

Amanda changed into the next dress. If she were being honest with herself, this was the one she was excited about wearing. She’d gotten it from Myrna’s closet full of clothes from the 1980s. It was a sparkly silver sheath dress covered in fringe and wasn’t as flattering as the other, but she couldn’t imagine another event where it would be appropriate. She slipped her glittery pumps on and made her way downstairs.

When she made her appearance, she was met with crickets. “So, no?” she asked finally, standing awkwardly in front of them.

Rosie glanced at Wren, but Wren didn’t respond except to smile enigmatically at Amanda.

“They’re both pretty on you, but I like the green one better. I’m also boring, so I’m maybe not the best judge,” Rosie said hesitantly.

“You were at an orgy two days ago. I wouldn’t call you boring,” Amanda said, prompting Rosie to laugh. Amanda brushed her fingers along the front of the dress, making the fringe shimmer. She loved this one.
