Chapter 24
SETH
“You sure know how to blow an afternoon,” Seth said, lounging on one of many chairs along the port side of thePriss & Moan.He had a fruity drink in one hand. The kind that he secretly loved but would never be caught dead with in public. The marina didn’t count as public. Zack didnotcount as public.
At the moment, Zack was making the rounds on his vessel, texting a personal assistant about improvements he wanted to make and oh would she do him the honor of researching how much that would cost? He was also thinking about buying a small charter plane for his own playboy bachelor amusement. Between throwing himself in death machines and playing loose and fancy-free with the possibility of STDs all over the city, Zack sure had a death wish of some kind. Probably thought life wasn’t worth living otherwise.
Shit, did Setheverneed someone like that in his life.
“This is the only way to blow an afternoon if you’re not actually getting blown.” Zack coiled some rope and then decided he hated this kind of rope. Should he get another kind? What kind of rope were the other billionaires using? Seth tuned him out until he said something worthwhile again. “Although that reminds me… the girls should be here within an hour.”
“The girls, huh?”
“So. Hot.” Zack dropped his ropes. “I met them at Lucky’s the other night. They’re not twins, but you would think they are. Because they’re both equally hot.”
“Uh… huh. So happens that there are two of them, of course.”
Zack slapped his hand on Seth’s shoulder, almost making him spill his drink. “It’s time for you to date a woman who is not milking your wallet dry in return for milking your cock dry. Hey, man, I ain’t gonna judge your dick’s love for Judith, butyou should expand your horizons if hers are expanded 24/7.”
“Excuse you. That’s a lady we’re talking about.”
Zack rolled his eyes. “She plays the lady well, all right,” he mumbled. “Anyway,Toya and Tanya will be here soon. If you don’t want one of them, I’ll take both. I did the other night, so why not?”
“I can’t believe you sometimes.”
“It’s rich that Mr. Monogamy like you would be enamored with…”
“That’s different.”
“Of course.”
Seth sat up in his lounge chair and adjusted his sunglasses. The sun had disappeared behind some cumulous clouds, so he might as well see for a change. “You invite whomever you want. Who knows. Maybe I’ll get my own boat one day and you will never be invited.”
“First of all, the idea of you buying a boat is so fucking hilarious I can’t even laugh. Second, you not inviting me onto your imaginary ship makes it so we’re not friends anymore. Don’t be a dick, Seth.” He guffawed. “I’m going to put that reminder on your phone for you. Every time you act like a prick, I’m gonna call you up and have ‘DON’T BE A DICK, SETH,’ scream on your phone.”
“So mature.”
“You once decided to look up pussy for a living. Who’s the mature one now?”
Seth leaned over and glared at his friend – and then saw someone waltzing up the dock with eyes on the neighboring yacht.
“Hey!Senor Chico Rico!” Zack held up an arm to wave him down. “Haven’t seen you around for a while. Not since you made that lady your mistress, anyway.”
A hearty laugh floated up to the deck. “You’re killing me.”
“Come on up and have a drink with us! I want you to meet my friend.” Seth had no idea if that was directed at the stranger or athim.
Within another minute they were joined by a newcomer. Or at least Seth had never seen him around before.I would remember a guy like this.Tall, broad, and that disgusting mix of rugged masculinity and refined sophistication.Let me guess. European… Spanish or old money Latin American.Seth had seen plenty of each growing up and as husbands rushed in and out of his office over the years. He could smell that musky cologne from half a deck away.
“This is my friend, Seth Christens.” Zack brought the two men together as if they were about to clink champagne glasses and toast to familial success. “He’s a doctor.”
“Oh?” the other man said with a strange accent. Seth couldn’t place it, anyway. Not quite Spanish, not quite French, and vague traces of Brit in there. “I need to find a doctor around here.” He had an infectious, easy-going smile.
Seth needed to come off it already. This guy hasn’t done anything. I’m annoyed at Zack. When the hell wasn’t he annoyed at the stupid buffoon? “Unless you’re pregnant or think you might have cervical cancer, I’m not sure how much help I could be.” Seth extended his hand from where he sat, careful to move his fruity drink.Don’t judge me. I love fruit. The more acidic, the better.Hey, nobody said I was a dentist.“Good to meet you.”
The man shook his hand. Strong, and not a single callous. This man definitely came from an old money background. “Miguel Bolivar. I’m rather new in town.”
“He may be new in town, but he’s already old inmyheart.” Zack was most pleased with this meeting of the buddies. “He bought theSt. Judenext door. One of these days I’ll convince him to play chicken with me out in the bay.”
