His mouth twitched. “What did you have in mind?” His eyes darkened hungrily.
Running my hands up his defined chest that was covered in his incredibly expensive business suit, I wrapped my hands around the back of his neck tugging him down until he met my lips.
We must have looked like exact opposites. Gideon tended to dress in his business suits and only occasionally went for something more casual, while I was dressed in yoga pants and a cami. I’d been so used to my leather tactical clothes that I was enjoying the more comfy clothing, since I’d eventually have to return to the leathers. I brushed the thought away and just enjoyed kissing the man before me.
With a groan, he turned the kiss more feral. His hand skimmed over my breast, down my body and cupped my ass when the door swung open.
“Does no one knock today?” Gideon complained snaking his hand up to my hip as we both swung our eyes to Trey who was looking anywhere but at us. My brow knitted when I noticed he held a plate of chocolate mousse cake in his hand. “For God’s sake, Trey, we’re decent.”
“I’m sorry for the intrusion. I wasn’t aware you were…occupied. I saw the guards leave and I assumed…”
“What is it?” Gideon asked releasing me. It’d make Trey more comfortable if there was more space between Gideon and I judging by the strain in his body. Seeing us together shouldn’t have been a surprise to him. Gideon claimed that my scent had changed since the last full moon. I now smelled like him, marking me as his mate. The pack had known longer than I had thanks to their keen sense of smell. Perhaps actuallyseeinghadn’t been something the Head Enforcer was prepared for. It’s one thing to know, another to see.
Trey flicked a glance my way wondering if he should speak in front of me.
“I can go,” I offered to Gideon.
“Stay.” He took his seat behind his desk, steepling his fingers together. The moment suddenly felt more intense. This wasn’t just Gideon not caring I was here, this was him making it clear to Trey that I was his mate and privy to all happenings within the pack.
I swung my eyes back to Trey unboastfully. The situation didn’t make me feel smug as it might have for someone like Carla. Instead I was nervous. I wasn’t a wolf and therefore was limited to my knowledge of the going-ons, but as Gideon’s mate things changed. We were swimming in dangerous waters. He was already a pariah for wanting to bring the wolves out of the shadows. Now he brought a huntress into pack business.
“Trey?” Gideon pressed.
“Sorry, Alpha.” Setting the plate down on the desk, he began giving Gideon a basic report of what had happened during the night with patrols.
When I tried to move out of the way in hopes of discreetly sneaking out of the room, Gideon grabbed my hand tugging me onto his lap. Reaching for the cake he slid it in front of me. I loved cake, but I wasn’t about to steal Trey’s. The guy hated me enough as it was.
“It’s yours,” Trey paused in his report when he saw I didn’t make a move to touch the cake. “Someone from the kitchen was bringing it when I was heading this way.”
“I asked for it when I saw you were upset,” Gideon whispered. His breath was warm dancing across my neck.
Struggling not to smirk because this man knew me, I picked up the fork and took a bite of the cake. It was delicious like a chocolate explosion in my mouth. I couldn’t help the moan that slipped past my lips. Trey cleared his throat uncomfortably.
While Trey continued to give his report, Gideon traced his fingers along the exposed skin just above my hip. It was doing wicked things to me and for the first time in my life I was distracted from cake. I didn’t know what he was doing. He’d never been so intense in front of anyone before.
When the report ended, Gideon dismissed Trey. The moment the door closed he dropped all pretenses and let his hands fall away from me.
“What the hell was that about?” I demanded shoving another bite into my mouth finally being able to savor it since he was no longer distracting me.
Sighing heavily, he ran his palm down his face. “There has been some…displeasure over you as my mate.”
“But it’s not a choice,” I stated. I still wasn’t certain if we were mates. Part of me desperately wanted it and the other was scared to death of the idea and what it would mean.
“Some members believe that I should have considered the best interest of the pack over my personal feelings and left you unclaimed.”
My head hurt trying to process what he was saying because it made no sense. He hadn’t been aware of who I was to him when we first slept together and when his wolf took over Gideon was powerless to stop that side of him from marking me.
“I know,” he grumbled reading the confusion on my face.
“So that in front of Trey… he disapproves?” Of course he would.
Eyeing me curiously, he nodded.
“So you were putting a show on for him. Did you know he was coming when we started kissing?”
He scoffed. “That was just happy coincidence. And it wasn’t so much a show as me telling him that no one was going to come between me and my mate.”
“But with the rebellion, do you really think now is the best time to give the pack the bird?”
