Rick nervously shook his head. “It was just me and Chris and Dillon.”

“It was just you three trying to start this war?” Even as he said them, the words felt untrue.

“War? We were just trying to get back at the bitch for embarrassing us. I swear.”

“Did you leave the note in her room?”

“Note? I don’t know nothing about no note. We were tipped off. Told she’d be coming here alone tonight.”

“Tipped off?” Gideon spat. “By who?”

“I don’t know.” Gideon growled putting more pressure against Rick’s windpipe. “I swear,” he choked. “I received a letter a few days ago wanting to know if I was interested in another shot at the huntress.”

“How’d you communicate with them?”

“They said to wear a blue shirt the next day. So I did. Tonight, I got another letter with a time and location. I swear. I don’t know about any war. I just wanted to teach the bitch a lesson.”

Gideon relaxed and I saw relief flood back to Rick’s face. “Problem is, Rick, by going after her you not only disobeyed my order but you put this entire pack at risk. If you’d killed her, we’d have been at war. Do you not know that she is the princess of the Hunter’s Order, next in line to rule?”

“Gideon…I….”

“This was your second mistake.”

Rick’s eyes barely had time to go wide before Gideon broke his neck.

After his last breath rushed out, the room grew ominously quiet. Gideon stayed crouched over the body of his fallen wolf before, unnervingly slow, he turned his head, fixating on me.

“I want to ask why you are here, but I know why since your guard gave me the note he found left in your room when he realized you were gone.”

“He must have been slacking on the job. There was no guard when I walked out of my room.”

“You think this is funny? Three are dead and as horrible as that is if they’d have killed you it would have been so much worse.”

He continued scolding me, telling me how stupid my decision was but when he stood revealing his incredibly naked form, I completely tuned out his voice. God, couldn’t the man have a twinge of fat or a small…

A moment passed before I realized he’d ceased talking. My focus moved to his face, but his gaze wasn’t meeting mine. Instead his lingered slightly lower. Following his line of sight, I swallowed hard when I noticed what held his rapt attention were my breasts, which had made itpointedlyobvious I wasn’t wearing a bra. His gaze was like a warm caress heating my body up. My skin flushed as my breast grew heavy. I wanted nothing more than to feel his hands cup them, relieving the ache. I let my eyes rake over him. My lips parted when I noticed his length hardening. Heat shot straight to my core.

Gideon’s breathing increased rapidly. When his gaze met mine, his green eyes were replaced with the soft glow of his wolf’s amber. His body tensed.

“I have to go.” He turned to leave.

“Gideon?” I called out as he headed to the hall. “Aren’t we going to talk about this?” I meant the dead lying around the room not what had been brewing between us.

“I can’t.” He stood in the mouth of the hallway.

“But I need to explain…”

“We’ll talk later. Right now, I have to find Carla.”

He took another step and anger flooded me. My muscles tightened. He was going to leave me here with these wolves and go have sex. “Gideon,” I spat clenching my fists while taking a few steps forward determined I’d be heard.

“Isabel!” He yelled forcing me to halt. “I cannot be in the same room as you right now. I can smell your arousal from here. My wolf is riding me and if I don’t go…” He let his words hang in the air. I took in his body, not in a sexual appreciation for the fine male specimen that he was, but to notice his muscles trembling with need. “I’ve never taken a woman against her will and you’ve made it clear that you don’t want me, so I have to go.”

“Gideon,” I called out. I should have let him go find Carla, but the thought of them together enraged me in a way that shocked me. Was I jealous?

“Isabel,” he groaned desperately as I slowly approached him erasing the distance. I didn’t want him to dart off. My steps were unsure, as my knees grew weak. I was attracted to Gideon, and if he’d been human, I might have slept with him already. But he wasn’t just a human. He was an Alpha werewolf. To do what I wanted was considered taboo among the hunters. Knowing this did nothing to stop the desire tighten in my stomach. Even as I stood behind him, raising my trembling hand to place it on his shoulder, I knew I shouldn’t, but God I wanted to touch him, to feel the warmth of his skin under my palm.

“Did you not just hear me?” His voice lowered when he spoke.
