On the floor lies a man’s form, a pool of red under his downturned head. I don’t need to see his face to know that is Colonel Hicks. He was not the traitor after all.
“Where’s Governor Taylor and her escort?” Harko asks, leaning beside us as well.
“She’s the traitor.” I speak with no air. “The destruction of the Freedom, the invasion of the Pearl. It’s all a diversion.”
“She thinks she has the data frame,” Harko says. “Our plan is working.”
“Is the trap set?” I ask Harko, even though I already know the answer.
“That shuttle is never going to leave the Pearl,” Harko answers. “I have explosives all along the tunnel to the hatch, ready for your command.”
Our plan is working perfectly. The trap is set and now all we need is the mouse before we close it on her.
“All Governor Taylor needs now is the key,” Darhk says and his face takes the mask of a murderer. “She’s after Sara.”
At these words, another image appears as Harko takes control. Breath deserts my body as the figures of two human women walk down the smoke-filled hallways, hugging the walls.
Sara is the target, but Juliet is with her. Our plan might be working, but Juliet risks getting caught in it, too.
