The slow song ends and many of the couples start shaking their bodies to the fast song. Addie and Caleb lower themselves near us with drinks, looking tired but also relaxed.

“You guys weresocute,” I tell them. “Looks like you shared the most amazing dance in the history of dances.”

Addie smiles at Caleb. “We sure did.”

He smiles and leans forward to kiss her cheek.

“Is that food?” Carly slams herself in the chair next to me and grabs a brownie. “I’m so hungry.”

“Can I have one, too, please?” Ryder asks as he sits down next to his girlfriend.

“You don’t have to be so polite,” I tell him with a laugh. “You’re one of us now.”

He smiles. “Thanks. That means a lot to me. You guys are such great friends to Carly, and I’m glad I’m your friend, too.”

“Us, too,” Raven tells him.

“Okay, so who’s smart enough to tell me who that dude is?” I nod to Mr. Leather Jacket.

Carly’s eyes widen when she takes him in. “Oh, wow. That guy looks like trouble. Is he new?”

“That’s what Raven and I were trying to figure out. I don’t get why no one else is paying any attention to him. He sticks out like a sore thumb.”

“Probably because he’s another scholarship kid,” Carly mutters.

Addie sits up in her seat. “Wait a sec. Is that the guy Grandpa was telling me about?”

“Grandpa told you about who, what, where?” I ask.

“He mentioned something to me when I visited him last week, about Principal Harrington’s son attending our school.”

“Harrington has ason?” Carly wonders. “I don’t see it.”

“Wait, so that’s him?” I blink at the guy. Harrington is like super rich from a super rich family. Shouldn’t he be wearing the most expensive suit known to man?

As though he hears us whispering about him, he lifts his head and stares at us with sharp hazel eyes. Well, at me. Am I speaking the loudest or something? The guy must have super hearing.

He pulls his eyes away like he doesn’t find us even remotely interesting and goes back to his scrolling.

“He seems friendly,” Addie says.

“We wanted a new guy to fall into our laps for a potential boyfriend, remember, Sophie?” Raven points out with a teasing smile. “You can have him because I’m not interested.”

“Wait, him? He looks like a bad boy.” My eyes widen. “Bad boy trope?”

“Ooh,” Addie says, poking my ribs with her elbow.

I give her a look. “Idon’tlike bad boys.”

“Are you sure about that?” Carly asks.

“Of course I’m sure!”

I think?
