“Luigi’s is a great call. What movies are currently playing?” Zander lathered his toasted multigrain bagel with avocado spread.

“There is one action flick and a rom-com starting at the same time at the theater a block from the restaurant. We can go see anearly matinee and then grab lunch. I wouldn’t mind either one, so I will see which one Milo may prefer. From what I’ve learned from our nightly talks, he seems to appreciate a wide variety of genres in both book and screen. So, I figure one of them should fit our moods.”

“Sounds like a solid plan.” Zander took a bite of his breakfast and moaned. “I haven’t had this in so long. I really did miss it.”

“Rayne still averse to avocados?” I remembered how I threw a party last year and dared to place a bowl of guacamole on the table near him. He threw me out of my own home. “I thought that ended once he gave birth.”

“Usually it does.” Zander shrugged, one side of his mouth lifted. “Unless your super sperm ends up knocking your mate up again shortly after giving birth and all symptoms seem tripled this time.”

“You’re joking.” My mouth opened in a wide O. I was shocked. “Dude, are you going for a world record on births? Goddess, you need to practice abstinence or a year after this one is born…”

“When these three are born, you mean.” I swear I saw Zander puff out his chest and his grin get wider.

“Three?”

“Yep. And Rayne says he’s extra pissed because these babies aren’t in eggs. They are wolf pups like his side of the family instead of our dragons. That means he’ll be carrying them the full term and not just a short while.” Zander put down his napkin after wiping his mouth and sighed. “I’ve been on the couch since last week when Doctor Matthews confirmed it.”

“Dude.” I shook my head but couldn’t hold back the chuckle. “I think if you survive this one, you better think about options. If nothing permanent, maybe at least something temporary. Give your poor husband a break. Plus, you need to make sure your kids each have time with you. It’s hard with just my one. How do you manage your brood?”

“Carefully and very strictly scheduled. Rayne has a color-coded chart, and we block off time to do one-on-one time with each child.” Zander held up his phone showing his calendar with various bright colors. “But you are right, it’s overwhelming already and now we are adding three more.”

I grimaced thinking of such a busy schedule but understood the need for one in that case. “Maybe Doctor Matthews has some advice on what works best for shifters birth-control wise.”

“I heard Hendrix has been working on a new tea blend for alphas. It would limit sperm production temporarily.” Zander frowned down at his calendar. “I might speak with him about it when I see him at the center next week.”

“I suggest you do.” I picked up my toast and took a bite. “Before Rayne chops those balls off instead.”

Zander threw his napkin at me. I didn’t mind. Happiness filled my soul today in a way it hadn’t in months. Nothing was going to bring me down.

I had a date with my fated mate.

After breakfast and giving Willow her morning kisses, I left my daughter in the capable hands of my brother and headed over to Milo’s apartment on campus. Rayne and Zander had a row of apartments built on the outer borders of the territory for anyone who was visiting the training center temporarily. The leases ranged from one- to twelve-month periods. I’d have to remember to ask Milo how long his lease was for.

Arriving at his building, I was surprised to see my gorgeous mate standing outside on his porch. Once he saw my car, he ran up to the door and hopped in.

“I was planning to come up to the door and get you.” I knew I was frowning by the way my lips pulled down, but I felt sort of robbed of picking him up properly for our first date.

“Sorry.” Milo shrugged and leaned over to place a sweet peck on my lips. “I was too excited to see you. Plus, I love being outside. The weather is beautiful.”

“It is.” I had the windows open, enjoying the slight breeze that the day offered. “Are you sure you are okay with doing an early date? I just like being home for Willow’s night routine, and Zander is needed less at home during the day than at night right now with Rayne’s parents helping. So, the timing worked better.”

“Oh, no problem at all.” Milo smiled at me. “Anytime is a good time. As long as we can spend it together.”

“The theater is playingLove or Brainsin a half hour, but ten minutes after thatThe Rose Tattoostarts, so either one would work. Do you have a preference?” I pulled onto the highway heading toward town. “I’m good with either.”

“In that case, let’s go with the zombies. I’m in the mood for action and brains.” Milo placed a hand on top of mine in the middle console, his energy reaching out to mine and filling me with a shot of excitement.

Today will be a great day.I had to agree with my dragon. The movie ended up being one of those you just know will grow to be a cult classic. As I sat across from Milo in a corner booth at Luigi’s, I couldn’t help but feel excited that we got to experience it in theaters. “I missed out seeing so many great movies in the theater over the years. Getting to see this one will definitely go on my list of achievements.”

“Seriously?” Milo’s brows shot up. “You really enjoyedLove or Brains, huh?”

“Wait?” I squinted my eyes at my mate. “You mean to tell me you didn’t see the brilliance in that movie?”

“It was good. I laughed and got a few jump scares when I thought a zombie would eat one of the main characters, but didI think it was one of the best zombie movies ever produced? No. Nothing compares toZomb-topia.”

“You have got to be kidding me.” I shook my head and leaned back in my seat. “I kept falling asleep when I tried watching that one. How could you think that snoozefest is better than what we just saw?”

“I guess we will just need to rewatch both of them some weekend and have a rematch. Winner makes the other admit they were wrong. The loser acknowledges that the winner has better taste in post-apocalyptic movies.” Milo held out a hand and I shook it.
