Nikolai Survolar
Waves crashed onto the beach as a gentle breeze blew through my hair. No matter how many times I had a dream about this place, I’d never get over how realistic it felt. In my other dreams, I couldn’t feel a chill in the air or the wetness of water. But in the magic-fueled dreams I had with Hendrix’s tea, I could feel so much of this world.
“It’s because this is not really a dream.” Stacey sat down next to me and gripped my hand. “You can feel this because we are meeting in a special dimension of existence.”
“I see you can still read my mind and know my thoughts.” I looked at the first person I ever loved and smiled, feeling less of a romantic love but just as deep and strong of a connection.
“We will always have a connection, Nikki, no matter what happens, we have a bond that won’t be severed. Milo is your fated mate now, that’s why our romantic love is no longer there. But what we had was still real.” Stacey placed a hand on my cheek, and I closed my eyes, trying to burn the feeling into mymemory. Something told me this was going to be the last time I saw my late wife. “Our connection will always live on though in our daughter. And I am happy to see how much you and Milo love her.”
“He loves her as his own.” I opened my eyes and met her crystal blue orbs. “He tells her about you all the time though.”
“I know.” Stacey smiled and squeezed my hand. She then looked out over the ocean and took a deep breath. “That’s why I feel confident in my decision to move on from this place of limbo. I’ve decided to be reincarnated and won’t be available to meet with you again after today.”
“What?” Pain shot through my chest. “You’re leaving me again?”
“No, Nikki. I am moving on.” Stacey placed her palm on my chest. “But I will always be here. Even if my soul is reborn into another body, there will be a soul connection that never fades. You just won’t be able to see this mortal body any longer or speak with me. But your bond, our memories, our love? None of that will disappear.”
“I remember what the elders taught us about rebirth. I just didn’t think you would choose it so soon.”
“I didn’t think so either at first. You were so lost, and I thought I had to watch over both you and Willow.” Stacey stood up and looked down the beach. “I must go soon but I needed to tell you. You have come so far, Nikki. The father you have become and the man you are is everything I always knew you’d be. And with Milo by your side, I know that neither you nor Willow need me to stay back in this limbo. You are allowing my soul to be free. This is a good thing.”
“I’ll miss you.” I stood and gathered my best friend and first mate into my arms for one last hug.
“I love you and Willow.” Stacey placed a chaste kiss on my lips and pulled away. Congratulations, by the way. I’m so happy tosee the egg was delivered safely. I hope that means you can stop stressing so much over Milo. He will be blessing you with a few more little dragonettes and pups.”
“You saw us having more?” Stacey always had the gift of sight, but she seemed to have developed better powers since entering the other side.
“I did. I have seen a lot.” Stacey swept a flyaway strand of hair out of her face. “Don’t worry, everything will be okay.”
“But how many more are we talking here?” I envisioned Rayne and Zander’s brood and grimaced. That was a bit too many if you asked me.
“Not as many as your brothers. Both Nik and Angus are meant to bear many. But you will have two more.”
“That’s not that bad. When exactly? Please tell me we get a small break between them all.”
“There will be a bit of a gap between these recent births and their siblings. Even with the tea Hendrix sent you all. You are not done yet.” Stacey giggled. “Not even a little done. There will be another wave of births in about five years and the glimpse of the future I’ve seen filled me with so much hope.”
“Ollie and Rayne will be happy to hear there will be a bit of a break in births. I swear we will run out of space soon.”
“There are other families still growing, but Milo, Rayne, and Ollie are going to have a bit of a break in the baby-making department. They do have something much bigger coming.”
“What?”
“I can’t say. You know we seers are limited on what we can share. But you will see soon enough. Hendrix gave the warning you all needed to hear.” Looking back over her shoulder, Stacey stared down the beach again. “I must go now. Will you tell Rayne and Zander congratulations on the triplets? And Ollie and Wolf will have a safe delivery soon as well. You will all have your hands full in the coming years. These children are going to begreat casters one day and bring in a new phase of peace for the world.”
“I wish you were here to see it.”
“I’ll be there in the middle of it. You just won’t know.”
“You are being born into our clan?”
“I don’t know if it will be in the clan or on the other side of the planet. These changes you see in the new generation are not just your family, Nicolai. They are global, and soon you all will see just how much power these babies hold.”
With those words, the dreamscape began to collapse, and I soon found myself awake in bed with my mate. Pulling Milo close, I kissed the top of his head and reached around to place my hand on his belly before falling back to sleep.
