Their lips pulled back in a wide smile, exposing their blunt teeth and sharp canines. “Ohh? What makes you think you deserve our cock, little one?”

I dropped my gaze to their groin. Even though their size was intimidating, I still wanted them to stretch me with that monster. They cackled, and I snapped my gaze back to their face.

“No, no,” they tsked and stood up, putting their cock at eye level in front of my face. “You’renot getting fucked by us. Not right now. But you will very soon. Until then, you’ll be our good little whore and stay needy for us.”

I shook my head and reached for them. “But I need you now.”

They pulled up their pants, tucking themselves away from my eager eyes, and I whimpered at the loss. “We’llfind out later just how needy you are for us. If you’re a good girl and tell us what upset you, we’ll give you what you want.”

Like water dousing a fire, all the heat and want I had for them died. What happened earlier came roaring back and settled heavily on my chest.

I retreated from them and averted my gaze. From the corner of my eye, I saw their eyes flashing brighter and their muscles tensing. Instead of growling and threatening me, they grinned, which was more wicked than good.

“Be a bad girl. We’ll eventually break you, and you’ll confess. Until then—” They leaned forward and captured my lips with theirs. My strangled moan came out of me as they extended their long tongue into the back of my throat, purposely trying to make me puke. I held back, but I rocked with dry heaves. When I didn’t give them what they wanted, they withdrew with a coy smile.

“See you soon, v’ns’kah,” Demon said, his voice the dominant one.

I watched as their body changed. It happened so quickly that my human eye couldn’t keep up. Dimitri stood before me with a haughty expression. He stared at me for a moment, then he picked up my panties, stuffed them into his pocket, walked to his desk, and sat in his chair.

Okay. So he wouldn’t tell me what had upset him before he came back. I knew it had to do with Mia. She insinuated she was pregnant.

My moment of joy and any happiness went right out the window.

My conversation with Mia kept replaying in my mind as the day passed. I thought back to the night I went to the bar and the blonde who’d bothered me. At one point, everything became blurry, then black. Despite being blacked out, I never believed I would sleep with anyone other than my mate.

Emma drew away from me after our moment in my office. She sensed something was wrong. Emma’s lack of a smile and the departure from her usual happy demeanor were red flags. I wondered if Mia had talked to Emma when she retrieved the package I had yet to open. If I could have rewound time, I’d have been with Emma as she collected it.

The Christmas party was in four days, and I’d wanted it to be perfect for Emma. How could it be when she was so upset she couldn’t talk to me? She didn’t come into our bed tonight to sleep. Instead, she was in the guest bedroom, and it seemed like we were on opposite ends of the earth. I missed having her curled against me and her warm breaths puffing against my shoulder as she slept. Emma had always slept better while she was with me, as she’d told me multiple times before she lost her memories. Even though she hadn’t hallucinated dead people in bed next to her for a few months, I still worried it’d happen again.

I lay on my back, my arms folded behind my head as I stared at the ceiling fan spinning in quick circles. The chain dangling from the center occasionally clinked against the light bulb. Emma’s box fans were in the guest room with her, whirling and giving her that needed white noise, but now I missed having that white noise. I’d grown used to hearing the fans at night, and now that she’d taken them away, it felt like someone had ripped a piece of myself from me.

Sighing heavily, I got out of bed, pulled on a pair of sweats, and left the bedroom. My inner demon opened his eyes and stretched in my mind, eager to enter Emma’s room. I refused to disturb her sleep, so I walked past it and went downstairs.

I poured myself a stiff drink and brought it to my office. I didn’t bother turning on the light since I could see fine in the dark. The leather chair behind my desk groaned under my weight as I sat on it. I sipped my whiskey. It tasted like ash on my tongue, which only worsened my mood. Nothing tasted or felt right because my mate was withdrawing from me. My chest had an uncomfortable tightness, and my stomach twisted into knots. What the fuck happened that turned me into this pouting mess?

“You know what caused this, Dimitri. Don’t play stupid,”my demon growled.

Ahh, yes. Emma. Since meeting her and giving in to my desires for her, I’d turned into this broody asshole. My hand tightened around the crystal glass full of whiskey. Emma had broken through every carefully placed wall around my heart and mind that protected me from the outside world. Now here I was, sitting in my dark office and being depressed.

Emma’s screams from the accident echoed in my head. I clenched my jaw, and the crystal glass in my hand shattered. Glass and whiskey spilled onto my lap, and I didn’t bother to clean it up. I sat there, still hearing her screams and seeing her broken and lifeless body in the snow. When I found the driver who collided into her side of my ruined car, I’d ensure their death was slow and painful.

Emma’s whimpers dragged me out of my thoughts. I looked at the open door to my office and focused on my mate’s soft cries from her bedroom upstairs. She quieted for a few seconds, then whimpered once more.

Judging by the muted pain and anguish in her cry, she must’ve been having a nightmare.

I stood from the chair and left the office. With silent footsteps, I went up the stairs and entered Emma’s bedroom. She lay on her side, her blanket half-covering her and exposing a thick thigh. A breast popped from her gray tank top. Emma let out another whimper, her eyebrows drawn together and her lips curled down in a grimace.

My demon stretched again, testing the barriers in my mind. He craved to go to Emma, and I couldn’t deny us that. I shoved my sweats down my legs and stepped out of them.

“Shh,” I whispered as I climbed into the bed behind her. Fuck staying away from her and giving her the space she wanted. She needed me and would continue to have nightmares if I wasn’t with her. I curled an arm around her and gently tucked her back against my chest. I swept my other arm under her head so she rested it against my bare shoulder. “It’s just a dream, sunshine.I’m here now. Rest.”

“Dimitri,” she sighed in her sleep. That one little word went straight to my dick. I closed my eyes and swallowed a groan. When I could speak without moaning, I opened my eyes and tucked her closer. Her ass nestled against my groin, but I made no move to touch her in a sexual way. This was different and not something I’d ever done for anyone until her. It was intimate and strange, but I’d do anything for her.

“Sleep,v’ns’kah. I’m not leaving you.” I nuzzled my nose against the back of her head and gently kissed her.

Emma settled. Her breathing deepened and evened out as she slept. Her tense muscles loosened, and she melted under my embrace. As much as she was upset with me, she still needed me. She craved my touch, and it’d never end. Because we were mates, the bond now demanded us to fuck like rabbits until she conceived my child; she couldn’t stray too far from me. Just like I couldn’t leave her for longer than a few hours.

“You’re mine, sunshine,” I murmured in Russian. “You’re going to marry me. Soon, your heart, mind, soul, and body will belong to me.”
