“Hey, I need a favor.”
“Uh-oh… What is it?” He stared at me, his smile slipping into a look of concern. “You have that look in your eye that tells me you’re up to no good.” When I only smiled, he groaned. “Xan? What are you planning?”
I heaved a sigh. “I need to get laid,” I told him. “Badly. Silicone just isn’t doing it for me. I have everything set up, but I need an alibi. All I need you to do is cover for me if Mom comes sniffing around. Tell her I’m here, that I’m in the shower or indisposed or something.”
Shay bit down on his bottom lip. “You want me to lie to our Alpha?”
I pouted. “Please? For me?”
He crossed both arms over his chest. “This doesn’t have anything to do with River, does it?” I opened my mouth to argue, but no sound came out, and my hesitation was all he needed to hear. Shay threw his hands up in the air. “Xan!”
“I can’t help it, okay!” I cried. “I need him!”
“This is a bad idea,” Shay warned. “You’re going to get hurt.”
I growled, more in frustration than anything else. “He isn’t like that. Why doesn’t anyone see that but me? He’s not a bad person, he’s just?—”
My friend held up his hand and I closed my mouth with a snap. “Okay. I get it. You like who you like. You’ve always been a bit of a stubborn dickhead.”
He let out a soft laugh. “I’ll cover for you, but please… Be careful. I don’t want to wake up in the middle of the night to a call that said you’ve been raped and murdered.”
I snorted. “Well, it definitely wouldn’t be rape…”
“Xan!”
“Yeah, yeah. Thanks, Shay, you’re the best.” I flung my arms around him in a big bear hug. He patted me on the back, then pushed me back.
“Anything not to hear you moaning like a cat in heat all night long.” He winked at me.
Oh god. My face blistered with heat. I covered it with both hands. “I was trying to be quiet!”
Shay only laughed.
After lunch, I gathered up all my stuff, toys and all, and stuffed them into my bag. I said goodbye to Shay and told him to thank Donovan for putting up with me, then drove the nineteen miles to the Fairway Inn.
Once I was checked in and had my room keys, I headed up to the third floor via the elevator—because there was no way in hell I was taking the stairs—and located room 333. My lucky number, apparently.
I let myself in.
The room was nice, spacious, with a queen sized bed meticulously made up in starched white sheets and a hunter green bedspread to match the accents in the room. That wouldn’t last long. Two small wooden end tables sat on either side of the headboard, each one holding a simple lamp.
There was both a shower and a jacuzzi tub in the cream-tiled bathroom, which is exactly what I’d wanted, because after fucking like bunnies for days straight, a long hot soak would be exactly what the doctor ordered.
I drew all the blinds in the room, then stripped out of my clothing and crawled up onto the bed. It was firm, like most hotel beds were. I stretched out on my back and held my phone out, snapping a provocative selfie.
Then I texted River the selfie, along with the address and room number.Waiting for you… ;)My heart kicked as I sent it.
It was read almost immediately, but there was no bouncing dots, no response back. Hopefully that meant he was on his way, and didn’t have a change of heart and had decided to ignore me. Otherwise I might have to go fishing at a club, instead. I needed dick, and I needed it now.
I set my phone down and propped myself up with pillows, stroking myself with one hand while I fantasized about Riverbarging in through the door and taking me like a buck in rut. Be still my heart…
My fist moved faster and faster as I ground my ass into the bed. My hole fluttered and clenched around the sizable butt plug I’d inserted earlier, knowing I’d need some prep to take River’s knot, and god, I wanted River’s knot…
I was so, so very close when suddenly, there was a sharp knock at the door. I gasped and rolled out of bed, padding over to the door naked as the day I was born, my cock erect and dripping and pheromones washing off of me in waves.
Please be River,I prayed as I flung the door open—and god, what a sight for sore eyes. He stood there like a statue, his nostrils flaring as he looked me up and down. Heat sizzled beneath my skin when he growled and shoved me back into the room, slamming the door and locking the deadbolt behind him.
I shivered at the sheer intensity burning in those strange eyes of his. I swallowed hard and took a step towards him, but he was faster.
