Another wave of lust crashed through him, hardening his cock uncomfortably. He fought it, concentrating on putting the cap back on the water bottle and returning it to the pack he slung over one shoulder. Finally, he couldn’t resist any longer.
Darken took her face in his hands and lowered his lips to hers in a light caress. Gina instinctively returned the gesture, and he pulled her against him and deepened the kiss, caressing the inside of her mouth with his tongue. Leaning into him, she made a low moan in her throat, putting her arms around his neck.
She felt even better than he imagined, holding her in his arms for the first time. She was everything he ever dreamed, all he ever wanted. Holding her and kissing her was exhilarating, a joy beyond words, and her response told him Gina wanted him, too.
ChapterFour
Gina had been scared to trust another man after her nightmare experience in Devlin White’s harem. But Layna reassured her that cyborgs were different. They had been conditioned to love only their genetic mate. A cyborg would die to protect his female.
As desire flared between them, Gina relished the feel of his erection pressing against her belly. The answering flutter between her legs and her nipples tightening against his hard chest was hard to resist. She liked the feel of him in her arms with their bodies pressed together. His hard muscular physique was delectable.
While her body ached to have him inside her when he ended the kiss, her head still throbbed. Though it had subsided a little since he kissed her. Her brows knit slightly at the fizzy, tickly sensation in her mouth as she looked up at him. “Mm, that was nice,” she murmured with a smile.
“It sure was,” he assured her. “Can you feel the nanocybots in your mouth?”
“Yes—that must be what I feel.”
“That’s the other way I can share my little bots with you.” He paused. “Until we are better acquainted,” he added with a tender, teasing light in his emerald eyes, still holding her. “Much as I enjoyed kissing you, we should keep going. We need to find water and shelter before it gets dark.”
Gina nodded and slid from his embrace reluctantly. Taking his offered hand, she walked with him toward the trees in the distance. Of course, it wasn’t as close as it looked as they walked for another hour, and it still didn’t seem any closer. At that point, Gina stumbled, and Darken caught her before she fell.
“I don’t think I feel so good,” Gina murmured.
“What’s bothering you?” Darken demanded in a worried tone.
“Dizzy, weak, stomach queasy,” she mumbled just before she fainted.
Darken picked her up in his arms like she weighed almost nothing and started carrying her for the apparent oasis. He didn’t have to be a medic to know that she was probably suffering from heat exhaustion at the very least and a possible concussion. But there wasn’t a stick of shade between them and the trees in the distance.
She needed to be cooled down and a scan to ensure she wasn’t suffering from a brain bleed. Although she was secured during the crash, her brain could have been bruised at the very least. If only his internal computer would reboot, he could scan her to find out.
He could only wait for his nanocybots to repair the damage without a medic. That could take anywhere from minutes to hours, even a couple days. He didn’t know if they had that kind of time.
Heading for his new home after he had rescued Gina from White’s compound, Darken calculated they had been somewhere in West Texas when the other flier had started firing on them. His best guess was that they were in the Chihuahua Desert, South of his mountain home.
He had only seen it in pictures on a holovid. It was an underground home cut into the side of the mountain. Darken had sent pictures to Gina, hoping that she would like it.
By the way, she had kissed him; he felt pretty sure that she liked him. His cock was hard and making his pants seem suddenly tight most of the time since they had started walking. Kissing her only made it harder. He’d wanted her even before he met her, but he wanted to love and be loved as well.
Now that he finally held her in his arms, he was terrified he could lose her before they would even begin their life together. With that thought, Darken started running as smoothly as possible so he wouldn’t jostle her too much. From his study of the satellite maps, he seemed to recall a spring in the area. Hopefully, that spring was among the green trees ahead.
Darken arrived at the grove of trees just over a half-hour later, relieved to find the small pool fed by a waterfall and shade from the relentless sun. Wading right into the pool, he set Gina in the cool water and sprinkled some on her face with his hand. He propped her up, scooped up some water in his hand, and put it to her lips.
She sipped a little. While Darken knew the water could contain harmful bacteria, he would deal with that later. She needed to be cooled and hydrated, then maybe she could take some nourishment.
After a couple minutes, Gina opened her eyes and looked up at him. “Oh, that feels so good!” she said with a sigh.
Darken reached into the pack's side pocket, pulling out the empty water bottle. He dipped it in the water to fill it and put it to her lips. “Try to drink more. You’re dehydrated and probably have been since I freed you from Devlin White’s compound.”
After drinking her fill, Darken stood, lifting her out of the water. As he started to wade out of the pool, the sound of hoofbeats drew his attention. Several horsemen rode into the oasis. They pulled their horses to a halt and formed a semicircle, blocking any means of escape. None of them looked friendly at all.
By himself, he could have easily ended them all. But with Gina in his arms, he couldn’t risk her getting hurt.
“You know you are trespassing on Morenza land,” said the one in the center who seemed to be the leader.
“Well, that was not my intention. Our plane went down a few miles across the desert, and my female may have been injured. I needed water for her,” he explained without emotion. “Do you know how far to the old national forest?”
“Oh, it’s about 80 miles north from here.”
