If the former overseers wanted to keep their jobs, they had to agree to the terms and code of conduct put forth by the Consortium and Alliance. Next the slaves were officially freed by a blanket announcement. Those who wanted to return to their homeworlds would be screened in the coming days. They were also informed that the Farseek Warriors had a ship to take Farseekans home.
On the fourth rotation of his assignment on Ryosa, Narzek emerged from the shuttle to begin his shift, and there was a crowd of people waiting to see the Farseek Warriors. Though some of them looked familiar, he only recognized them as Farseekans. He no longer wore his armor now that the complex was secured by Alliance and Consortium soldiers.
Narzek was happy to see so many Farseekans, but he’d almost prefer to be in armed combat than face a couple hundred people looking for answers. In the four days his unit had been ground side, more Consortium forces arrived to secure Ryosa as the world was under their jurisdiction under the treaty with the Alliance. They also sent a massive passenger cruise ship, bigger than theKurellis,to take at least twenty-five thousand Consortium citizens back to their worlds, starting with the industrial complex.
As Narzek went about explaining it to the gathering, a man and woman were weaving their way from the back of the crowd. He recognized the male as a Narovian feline. He couldn’t see the female with him because she was not as tall. But when they emerged, Narzek was dumbstruck. His eyes teared up, and he stared through the blur as she came forward.
She didn’t hesitate to wrap her arms around him and hug him. He hugged her back and finally managed to say one word through the tightness in his throat. “Mom!”
They hugged for a long time, so he didn’t see the young woman who came up behind them. When he finally released her, the younger woman came up to hug him, too.
“Pleya!” was all he could say as Narzek hugged his youngest sister.
Everywhere he went, he had hoped he would find them, but he never quite believed he would. When he released his sister, he noted that the feline male had his arm around his mother possessively.
His mother, Yarelle, gave him a faint smile as she noted the question in his expression. “Narzek, I want you to meet Kaver Jensar. He is mysolmatu, meomeein his language. He will be coming back to Farseek with us.”
Narzek and Kaver exchanged a polite nod. “I am happy for you, Mother. “What about Dad?”
“We had an arrangement that would end if one of us foundsolmatu.I will notify him as soon as I have contact information.”
“I have that,” Narzek said. “I also have news. Mysolmatuis in orbit on my assigned Dread. We will be going back to Farseek at the end of my tour.” He pulled out his com tablet and showed them a picture of them together.
“She’s adorable, but so pale,” Yarelle said.
“They don’t have the skin color mutations as we do.”
“Neither does Narova,” said Kaver.
“Excuse me for a moment, I will get someone to cover for me so we can talk for a few mini-spans.”
When Narzek returned, he took them off to the side so he could tell them that Jakkin and Azur were found and would soon reach Farseek together. Although communications were restricted, Narzek got permission to contact his father to let him know Yarelle and Pleya were alive and well, and for Yarelle to give her news.
Yarelle went off to the side alone for that conversation while Narzek chatted with Kaver and Pleya. They would be getting the new home built on Yarelle’s property because that was part of their arrangement.
When Yarelle came back to join them and return Narzek’s com-tablet, he could see that she had been crying. “I don’t understand why he took it so hard. Even before the attack, I hardly ever heard from him except when he took one of his sporadic leaves to scratch his itch, so to speak.” She shook her head and didn’t say any more.
Narzek’s lips compressed into a thin line. He wondered how they stayed together as long as they had. He suspected they probably enjoyed their physical relationship, but that was not something he would discuss with his mother. He had never seen her look at his father the way she looked at Kaver.
Too bad for his father. Narzek knew his mother had never looked for another relationship. He would bet her connection with Kaver happened by chance, just like his finding Cayla.
Narzek stayed with them until it was time for him to return to Dread Ten. He wished he had more time with them, and that Cayla could meet them before they boarded the passenger ship back to Farseek. He couldn’t even com her because all but essential communications were blocked to Dread Ten because of the power outage.
Finally, at the end of his shift, the Farseek warriors were pulling out and returning to their respective ships. Cayla probably didn’t even know he was on his way back, so he wasn’t disappointed when she wasn’t waiting for him at the landing bay. He didn’t waste any time returning his armor to the armory and heading to their cabin. It was time for her to be off duty as well.
Cayla had just emerged from the shower and was slipping into her robe when she heard the whoosh of the cabin door opening. She sucked in her breath in a little gasp of excitement. Anyone else but Narzek would have prompted the AI to signal.
“Narzek?” She hurried to the bedroom doorway in bare feet, excited to see him.
He grinned at her and caught her in his arms in two strides. He lifted her up, so they were chest to chest. Cayla wrapped her arms and legs around him and eagerly met his lips with hers. All the anguish of the hours not knowing if he were dead or alive fell away, replaced by the joy of being in his arms again.
They kissed long and slow, savoring their delight in being wrapped in each other’s arms.
“I missed you so much!” they murmured together when their lips parted briefly. Then they were kissing again, tongues tangling, and making little noises of pleasure.
Cayla was so wet; her naked pussy pressed against his hard cock with his pants between them. She had no doubt where this was going as Narzek shuffled into the bedroom, still kissing her. They fell onto the bed together with Cayla pressed into the mattress and Narzek on top of her.
“Too many clothes,” she murmured, tugging his shirt from the waist of his pants. He raised up so she could pull it up and off.
