“It shouldn’t be much longer before you get to speak to your friend. They are probably giving priority to family members just now.”
“It’s okay. I am just happy to know Luanne is alive and rescued, she said. “I think my language upload is taking effect. I can read the signs now, and I don’t get that delay between when you talk and what I understand anymore.”
“Then, it’s time to get you a com-tablet. The teams are going to start training for landfall at Mecstar Prime. Dread Six is doing recon, and there is more armed security than we found on Berrapo.”
“Why do you think that is? What’sMecstar Prime?”
“Energy crystal mining. These are the energy crystals we use to power our starships. That makes them a prime war target,” Narzek said. “The Consortium forces are holding off for us to extract the slaves. We must take out the guards before that can happen. They estimate there are at least 2000 Uatu people and another 2000 various humanoid men and women.”
“Can I train, too?” Cayla asked.
“I think that can be arranged, but there is no way you will be fully trained in time for this mission.”
“I don’t expect that. I just figured I have to start someplace. I expect to do more observing at first.”
“Praxu, please send a new com-tablet to my cabin for my solmatu Cayla Fox.”
“Acknowledged. Order accepted.” The computer responded.”
“Are you still thinking of becoming a shuttle pilot?”
“Yes, I want to explore the possibility. You said everyone is cross-trained in both starship operations and ground combat,” Cayla said. “I did some flying of small aircraft back on Earth because my Uncle George has a small plane with his own landing strip.”
“That experience should come in handy on Farseek. We used hover-flyers to get around because there are no roads between our towns and cities.”
“Now, that sounds intriguing. Flying cars. Earth never got that far. Our cars have wheels, and there are roads everywhere.”
“Some of the older colonies have roads. When Farseek was colonized, flying transport was the most economical way to go.” Narzek put his hand under her chin, tilting it upward, contemplating her parted lips. “This is my last rotation off for several, I think we should take advantage of the rest of my free time.”
“Whatever do you have in mind?” she teased, moving her body wantonly against his.
Narzek slid one hand down over her ass and pressed his hardon blatantly against her belly. He took her mouth in a heated, tongue tangling kiss. Before he finished, a two-tone signal alerted him that the delivery he requested had arrived. He reluctantly ended their kiss and released her.
“Enter,” he said.
A droid cart rolled into his sitting-room bearing the requested com-tablet. Narzek lifted the tablet from the droid. “Now, you just need to apply your thumbprint to the reader, you will be entered into the communications directory, so your friend or anyone else in our fleet may contact you directly.”
Cayla complied, and Narzek handed the tablet to her. It looked much like a cell phone. “How does it work?”
“It's voice-activated. Just say what you want. You can ask to speak to a specific person, or you can access AI Praxu’s databases for any educational materials you need. All of our operations manuals and job descriptions and education requirements are available from the AI.”
“That’s easy enough. And this can even project holograms?”
“Yes, but we can go through all that later, can’t we?”
“I think so.” Cayla set her new tablet on the table and turned back to Narzek, sliding her hands up over his chest and around his neck. As they kissed, he subtly moved them into the bedroom.
Narzek kissed and caressed her at length, telling her with his body how much she meant to him. He built her arousal to a fever pitch before he joined them as one. Even then, he drew out their pleasure as long as possible.
He had hoped by now to claim her formally as his lifemate, but solmatu didn’t affect alien humans as quickly as with the Uatu people. Each time they shared sex, he wanted to claim her, but he had promised to wait until she was ready.
Chapter Ten
A few weeks later Cayla sighed as she lay spooned against Narzek in the bed they now shared. He cuddled her against him with one arm around her, cupping his hand over her breast. Though he never asked in words, she knew he was bidding with every kiss, every caress, every thrust of his cock deep inside her. He was asking to claim her assolmatubond mate.
She believed she was falling in love with him. What was not to love about the smoking hot Farseek warrior? She couldn’t imagine a better lover or lifemate. Committing to becoming Narzek’s lifemate meant it was unlikely she would ever go back to Earth. Going back to Earth would mean likely never seeing Narzek again.
As she thought of saying goodbye to Narzek forever, a lump swelled in her throat, and tears filled her eyes. The tears spilled over and wet her pillow, and she curved her hand over his that still cupped her breast. There was only one viable choice. She knew the first time he kissed her, there would be nothing casual about their relationship.
