When Jagger had kissed me back in the school basement, I'd kissed him back. He could've had me if he'd wanted me, but he didn't want to make it easy, did he? He wanted to take me against my will.
But why?
I saw Jagger that day. The way he'd looked at me was not the man who'd forced himself on me. He'd looked like he'd burn the world for me.
I was wrong.
But he hadn't come looking for me since. Maybe now he'd gotten what he wanted, he'd leave me alone. Not that I have to see him again—how can I go back to school while the police are looking for me?
But if I could just explain to the police and my aunt…
"Fuck!"
There's a knock at my door.
I freeze, forcing myself to be still.
Another knock.
My breath hides in my chest, and I close my eyes, like if I will myself to disappear, I will.
"Molly."
My eyes fly open. I'm sure I know that voice.
Who is it?
"Molly, it's Colton. Let me in, I know you're there."
Colton?! How thefuckdid he find me? Did Jagger tell him what he did? Is he here to do the same?
Fire burns in my lungs, and I breathe, sucking in the air greedily. If I let Colton in, he could doanythingto me.
"I'm not opening the door, Colton," I say, my voice sounding stronger than I am.
There's a pause, but then he replies, "Alright. I just wanted you to know I've sorted out your legal problem."
My legal problem?
My brows furrow until he adds, "The assault charge? Your uncle has dropped it. You can go home."
Home?
I don't have a home. I don't have any parents, no one that gives a shit about me.
Only Aphrodite.
Tears sting my eyes as he continues, "Your aunt wants you to go home, Molly."
Does she?I doubt it. She hasn't even reached out—I destroyed my SIM card, so she had no way of contacting me.
"Why are you here, Colton?" I ask, my voice trembling. I can't stop thinking about his dark eyes, how I can't trust him any more than Jagger.
"Well, I got your uncle to drop the charges, spoke to your aunt, and thought I'd give you a ride home." He sighs heavily, and I move to the window, peeking through the curtain. "She's reported you missing."
What? I had no idea my aunt cared so much.
Colton leans against the doorframe, staring at the floor. He crosses his arms over his chest, knitting his brows together in concern.
