I hadn’t had sex in what felt likeforever, and I also couldn’t seem to find DeQuincyanywhere.

Double frustration.

I went for a jog to see if it would help.

Probably won’t, but fuck it.

I plugged my earphones into my phone, putting my Spotify app on shuffle as I left the house. I jogged to the beat ofThe Killers, letting my body relax slightly. Suddenly the music cut off, alerting me to a phone call. It pissed me off that this happened five fucking seconds into my run.

“Yeah?”

“Um, Caleb?” said a quiet voice. I groaned internally.

Who the fuck is this?

“Yup. The one and only.”

“This is crazy. I don’t think I should do this,God.”

I stopped, realization dawning on me.

That voice.

“DeQuincy?”

“Ah, fuck,” she breathed.

“Wait, wait,” I yelled, turning back to my house. Her voice heightened my senses; my heart was pulsing hard in my chest. I thought I had a heart attack. “Wait. What’s your name?” I asked softly.

She paused. “Victoria.”

I liked it. It suited her.

“Where are you?” I breathed, going dizzy at her reply.

“Sitting in my car, trying to talk myself out of this. You?”

I smiled and walked back into the house, grabbing my car keys as my Mom raised her eyebrows at me in confusion. I shook my head at her dismissively, and she shrugged.

“Where are you? I’ll come now.”

“I don’t think—”

‘With all due respect, Victoria, I’d rather talk to you face-to-face,” I interrupted.

There was a pause.

“Okay,” she paused again before giving me a location about half an hour from my house.

I punched it into the GPS and drove there, not giving a shit about speed. I came across nearly every obstacle I could—student drivers, pedestrians that I contemplated running over, even a damn cat ran out in front of me, causing me to stop.

Am I ever meant to get there?

Finally, I arrived at a supermarket parking lot, which was full.

How the fuck am I supposed to find her?!

I got out of my truck, slamming the door as I slid my aviators off. I scanned the lot, positive if she was there, I would find her. A harassed mother dragged her bored child to the store as a cart collector guy walked past me, looking miserable as fuck.
