“No touching. This is my fated mate.”

Even though the clearing was full of raw, sweaty sex in this sticky hot night, there was an instant silence at the prince’s words.

Biting my lip in excitement, I looked around.

The other women were staring open-mouthed at me.

No one’s face looked anything but shocked and several wolfish expressions looked distinctly hostile.

Then I recognize Aurelia, the blonde woman from earlier.

My scalp still stung from her rough treatment, and I shrank back into Jack’s arms.

“Is she even a shifter?” someone asked. “Non-magical creatures are useless in the village, only good for a quick fuck.”

“No,” Jack said. “She’s not a shifter. But this is Andromeda. And as my fated mate she is not to be touched.”

“You must be shitting me,” Aurelia said sharply. “Thatis your fated mate? That little, unimpressive thing? No tits? No ass? She looks weak, Jack.”

I heard a low growl from his throat.

“You forget who you’re talking to.”

Aurelia opened her mouth like she wanted to say something else, but closed it abruptly.

And I could feel why. Something I couldn’t quite pinpoint, but I knew it meant Jack was the most powerful shifter here.

Without another word, he led me away.

“On my back,” he rumbled in my ear.

One I had climbed on, he grasped the bottom rung of a rope ladder and we began to climb.

Under my astonished eyes, I watched as we ascended into the trees until we reached a dark wooded little treehouse, it’s roof green with moss and vines. Little fairy-like lights glimmered in each deep-paned window, and a fenced deck ran around the length of it.

It wasbeautiful.

“Welcome to your new home,” Jack murmured, opening the door for me.

This was mine? For us to live together?

Inside I saw, a tidy spare living area, small kitchen, and cozy bedroom with attached bathroom, decorated with well-made quilts and soft furs.

I was even delighted to see running water.

“Are you sure?” I asked. “Are you sure you want this?”

He laughed, his eyes glowing out at me.

“I’m sure. I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life.”

Then he kissed me, and it already felt familiar. It already felt like home.

My parents had died when I was a teen, and no man had ever offered anything like this to me before.

Devotion. Care. Ahome.

I was still gasping with pleasure when he put a strong arm around me and carried me into the bedroom, pressing me up against his hard, taut body.
