It had been two months since we’d returned from Toledo, and it felt like our lives were on fast forward. School was in full swing for the girls, and that alone was overwhelming at times. They were excited to start third and first grade, but I had a hard time accepting my babies were growing up on me.

We found out that Elias’s mother’s instincts were right, and we were having a boy. When I told the girls they would soon have a baby brother, they screamed so loud I thought my ears would bleed. I was already excited, but their excitement took mine to another level.

Although Hollister and Michaels were still footing the bill for Elias’s suite at the hotel, he’d all but moved in with me. It wasn’t ideal, but we made it work, not to mention, he transferred money into my account weekly to take care of any bills or household items.

House hunting had been nonstop since our return. Elias suggested we look in the suburbs, but per the custody agreementwith Cairo, we both agreed to remain in the city. I was on the verge of suggesting we add on to my house when we found the perfect house in Irving Park.

“I’ll leave you two alone to discuss,” Nicole, our realtor, said before giving us some privacy.

“This is it, baby. This is it!” I exclaimed.

The house had a beautiful front and backyard that was already fenced in, a large porch, an open floor plan on the main floor, five bedrooms plus a bonus room in the finished basement, four bathrooms, upgraded appliances, and so much more. It had everything we’d been looking for.

“You want to put in an offer?” Elias asked.

“Yes, before someone snatches it up.”

“Whatever you want, baby.” He looked to his left and right, then behind him. “You know, Nicole is probably on a business call or something. We could probably christen one of the rooms?—”

“Absolutely not! You’re not about to have that woman catch me with my panties around my ankles.”

“C’mon, baby. I’ll be quick.”

I rolled my eyes. “Sir, you’re never quick. Let’s find?—”

“So, what did you two lovebirds decide?” Nicole asked, seemingly appearing out of nowhere.

“Let’s do it.”

It took two days for our offer to be accepted, and I’d never prayed so much in a forty-eight-hour time span in my life. A week and a half later, the closing date had finally arrived. It took entirely too long to sign all the paperwork, but when the keys were placed in our hands, I felt nothing but pure joy.

We drove from the title company straight to our new home. The traffic made me want to scream, but the closer we got, the antsier I became. When Elias turned down the street where thehouse was located, I was confused because there looked to be a large group of people in our yard.

“What the he—oh my God. What is everyone doing here?” I questioned.

“They were excited to see the house, so I gave them the address.”

“That was—wait! Is that your parents? Is that Emmet, Alaina, and the girls? Are those your friends from Toledo? Is that?—”

“It’s everyone, baby. They all wanted to be here.”

He parked in front of the house, and the girls and I waited for him to open our doors and assist us. Once the four of us were out, our friends and family cheered and held up signs that said, “Welcome home!”

I was so overcome with emotion from this amazing gesture, tears fell from my eyes.

“Mommy, why are you crying? Are you sad?” Caira asked.

“No, baby girl. Mommy has never been happier. Are you ready to see our new house?”

“Yes!” she exclaimed with pure delight.

After exchanging hugs and kisses with as many people as we could, Elias unlocked the door. As everyone went inside, I somehow ended up at the back of the group and was the last to enter the house. What I saw when I finally entered took my breath away.

Everyone was holding a small bouquet of red roses and had formed a Soul Train line, except there was no music. My girls were at the end of the line, one of them on each side, holding up signs. Caira’s sign said,“He loves you, Mommy!”and Chloe’s sign said,“Say yes, Mommy!”

With tear-filled eyes, I looked around but didn’t see my man. Suddenly, I felt his hands on my waist from behind. I turned around and wrapped my arms around him, burying my face in his chest.

“What is this?” I asked, knowing damn well I knew what was about to transpire.
