“I know it is with the way you’re glowing. Give us the tea, girl!” Austyn urged.

“Well . . . I’ll give you a condensed version. The girls and my parents love him, and Cairo hates him. I’m going to Toledo to meet his family tomorrow, and oh yeah, I’m pregnant.”

“What!” all the ladies exclaimed.

After a round of congratulations, I shared with them how this pregnancy came to be.

“I’m glad you got that taken care of and weren’t seriously harmed,” Norah said.

“Me too. The sudden severe cramping and bleeding were scary, but Elias being there helped a lot. He came over after I put the girls to bed and planned to leave before they woke up. I would’ve been alone with the girls otherwise.”

“I believe there’s a reason for everything,” Austyn commented. “Even the way you met him seems like y’all were destined to be together.”

“I was thinking the same thing,” Mona added. “You snuck out of his room and thought that was the last you’d see or hear of him. Then boom! He walked into the lounge and claimed his woman. If that ain’t fate, I don’t know what is.”

The server finally arrived to take our drink and food orders. Before I knew it, we’d been drinking, eating, and talking for hours. As if they’d planned it, our men began blowing up our phones at the same time. All of them threatened to show up if we didn’t get home.

About thirty minutes later, I let myself into my house, and Elias was waiting at the door. After a few kisses, he guided me into the bathroom, where a bubble bath awaited me. He spent the next few hours catering to my body until I fell into a blissful slumber.

Lord, I thank You for this man.

Elias

We left early, making it to Toledo before ten o’clock. When we stopped in front of my parents’ house, I sensed Karla’s nervousness. I reached across the console and grabbed her hand, bringing it to my mouth to kiss the back of it.

“Do you want me to eat your pussy right quick to calm your nerves?”

“What? Why would you ask that?”

“Are you saying that wouldn’t help calm your nerves?”

“Elias, I’m not about to let you get me all hot and bothered before I meet your parents. Let’s go.”

She reached for the door handle, knowing damn well she wasn’t allowed to open doors in my presence.

“Chill, baby. If my father is looking out the window and sees you open that door, I’ll never hear the end of it.”

She smiled. “I’ll have to make sure I thank him for raising such a gentleman, albeit a nasty one.”

“Shit. He’s been able to keep my mother happy for over fifty years. I’m willing to bet—uh, never mind.”

I got out and went to the other side to open Karla’s door. We held hands as we approached the door, and before we reached the porch, my mother opened the front door.

“There’s my baby boy! I’ve missed you so much,” she cooed.

“Hey, Ma. I’ve missed you too,” I confessed as we embraced.

When she finally released me, she leaned her head to the side and smiled at Karla.

“Is this my future daughter and the mother of my first grandson?”

“Ma, this is Karla. Baby, this is my mother, Grace.”

“It’s wonderful to meet you, Karla, but neither of you answered my question.”

“Gracie, will you let them come inside before you start hounding them? I thought you cooked all this food for us to talk over breakfast,” my father barked as he entered the vestibule, where we still stood in front of the door.
