I wish it were that easy. But with my father breathing down my neck and the pressure from the club to perform well this year, I don’t have time to take this recovery easy. I need to get back out there as soon as possible.

“Yeah, maybe.”

Khai claps a hand on my shoulder, forcing my attention to him. A shit-eating grin splits his face, and I groan, bracing myself for what he’s about to say. And if I know Khai, I’m in for a ride.

We’ve been friends since the moment we could walk. Our parents were neighbours, so we grew up on the same street, playing touch footy in his front yard and sneaking food and alcohol at block parties when our parents weren’t looking. Peers in our year group knew we were joined at the hip, and all throughout primary and high school, we stayed by each other’s side—no matter what. Khai is a loyal friend—one I trust my life and deepest, darkest secrets with. But in saying that, he also knows how to annoy the shit out of me.

“So, how was Barrenridge?” He wiggles his brows at me, and I can’t help but roll my eyes. “I know you went up there to helpMia move in with your gran, butpleasetell me you got some pussy to take your mind off everything.”

“I did, but I don’t kiss and tell.”

Khai gasps in feigned horror. “You motherfucker. I thought we had a deal that we would share details like this, and now you’re holding out on me.”

I roll my eyes. “I only tell you about my hook ups because you don’t shut the fuck up until I do.”

“Yeah, well, I like to know these things about my best friend.” He spins on the chair so his legs are over the side, brushing the side of my mine. “And because you’ve said it, I’m going to annoy the shit out of you until you give me every last, juicy, gory detail.”

“Fuck, all right,” I groan, shoving a hand through my hair. “But one of these days I’m going to hold out on you.”

Khai grins. “It doesn’t sound like you’re very good at holding out on someone.”

I stifle a laugh and shove at his shoulder. “Dick.”

“Yeah, I want to know about what you did with yours, so fucking spill it.”

“Okay,” I mutter, and exhale a deep breath. “I went out for a drink because I wanted to be by myself, and since there is fuck all to do in a small town like Barrenridge, the pub was my only option. It was there I met this girl, and I don’t know, man, I just… had to have her.”

Khai’s gaze stays locked on the side of my face as I stare ahead, like he’s listening to the best bedtime story known to mankind. “And?”

“And we had sex in my car,” I state simply. My chest tightens at the memory of Tatum crawling over the center console and seating herself on me like she owned it—like she owned me. “I dropped her home afterward.”

A low whistle sounds from Khai’s lips as his fist pushes my shoulder. “You dirty dog, Sin. I knew you were freaky, but car sex is next level. I hope you didn’t scare the kids in the town.”

“Shut up,” I grumble with an eye roll. “There’s a park outside of town that is deserted at night. No children were harmed.”

“Is that all?” he probes. “No details about who she is or what she looks like? I’m sure she was hot. Unless country people look a little… strange, if you know what I mean.”

Tatum saunters into the room, drawing the eyes from every player as she passes by, walking toward her dad nestled in the corner of the room with some of the staff members. I trail her, admiring the way her pony tail swishes and her hips sway to the beat of her steps. I’m reminded of her curves hidden beneath the black clothing, and how warm and smooth she felt against me.

My dick strains against the zipper of my jeans, and I will it to calm the fuck down. I can’t be popping a boner with my best friend beside me. We’re close, but Christ, not that close.

“You want to know who I hooked up with?” I tilt my head to peek at Khai. Curiosity consumes his features. “Well, she’s standing beside Coach.”

Khai frowns as he swivels his body to find him. “What? I don’t know what—oh.”

“Yeah.”

“You fucked Coach’s daughter?”

The pitch of his voice makes me cringe, and I sink lower into the chair, as if it were possible.

“Do you want to say it louder?” I hiss, eyes darting around the room. “I don’t think Coach heard you say I fucked hisdaughter.”

“What the fuck, man?” Khai swings to face me again, eyes wide. “Did you know who she was?”

“What? No, I had no idea who she was at the time.” I clench my jaw. “I didn’t know until Coach introduced me to her after the game.”

“Shit,” he breathes, chewing on his bottom lip. “I mean, even if he finds out about it, he can’t be too mad since you didn’t know who she was at the time.”
