“How do you know I threatened to call the police?”
He lifts an eyebrow. “Gabby.”
I sink into the seat, rubbing my hands over my thighs. “I know,” I say, my voice catching in my throat. “I’m sorry. I’m just so... angry. What they did to Emerson is unforgivable.”
He takes my hand, bringing it to his lips. “You can’t do that ever again. Promise me, baby.”
“So, we’re back tobabynow, are we? What happened to ‘I don’t need you’?”
Will’s eyes glass over. “Promise me, Eden. I need to hear you say it. Nothing can happen to you. Do you understand me?”
Rolling my eyes, I shake my head. “Fine. I won’t. Happy?”
“No.” Grabbing my face in one hand, he leans in. “I’m sorry, okay? I didn’t mean what I said. I just—you drive me insane and all I can think about right now is burying myself so deep inside that beautiful cunt of yours, just so I can forget everything for the next hour.”
My mouth dries up, every nerve ending tingling with what I can only sense is Will’s anguish. “Okay,” I whisper, bringing my hand up to cup his cheek.
Will sniffs and clears his throat. “Inside. Now.”
He’s out of the car before I have time to respond, so I text Tyler quickly to apologise and when I don’t get a response, I follow Will inside.
He’s nowhere to be seen, so I go in search of him. As I pass Emerson’s bedroom, I open the door to check how he is. He’s still out cold, on his stomach, cheek pressed to the pillow. And snoring like a damn trooper.
When he’s up for a home-cooked meal, I’ll make him my dad’s specialty—chicken noodle soup with sourdough bread and butter. It was always a favourite of mine when I was sick.
My heart cracks just a little, all my love for this man welling up inside me and rolling down my cheeks.
I don’t regret what I said today to Gabby, to Tyler.
To Will.
I’ll do anything to protect my boys.
Anything.
“Eden?” Will’s voice reminds me what I came up here for.
To let him lose himself inside me.
Swiping my cheeks of the tears, I close Emerson’s bedroom door softly, and make my way to Will’s.
His door is ajar, so I push it open all the way and wait in the doorway for Will’s instructions. I’ll give him everything he needs right now. My body, my heart, my damn soul if he wants it.
He hurt me with his words, and I still haven’t forgiven him completely for throwing them at me like I meant nothing.
But I also know he’s hurting. Not just in relation to Emerson, but Tyler, too. Even Gabby.
“Come in.” Will is shirtless and sitting on the end of his bed with his head in his hands.
Pretty sure I’ll never get used to seeing him like this. He takes my breath away every single time, but it’s not just his looks. His heart is full of love, and no matter how much he might try and deny it, it’s true.
I see it in the way he looks at Emerson.
Even in the way he looks at me.
Those dark-blue eyes of his give so much more away than he realises. The hurt, the pain. How much he’ll sacrifice for the people he loves.
I move slowly towards him, discarding my shoes on the way. He still hasn’t acknowledged my presence, at least not by looking at me, so I kneel on the ground in front of him and wait.
