I want that more than anything, and although it should scare me, for the first time in my life, I’m not afraid. How could I be when Landon Adair is declaring that I’m his and marking me in the most primal way possible?
Chapter Sixteen
LANDON
While Piper soaks in the bath, I check on Garfield and make sure dinner isn’t still smoking. I grin at the burned dish, still touched that she put so much care and love into it. Into me.
Grabbing my phone from where I left it on the counter, I go to order something for us when it starts vibrating. Uncle Dino’s name pops up on the screen, and if he’s calling instead of texting, then it’s important.
“Hey, kid,” he says, and it sounds like he’s in traffic. “Listen, that thing we talked about the other day? The bug problem?”
“Yeah,” I answer because he’s always careful not to say too much over the phone.
“It’s taken care of.”
There’s a silence that follows his statement, and I’m not sure what to say. I didn’t ask him to take a hit out on Bob Wilson, but it’s not like I’m sad about it.
“Any particular reason for taking care of the bug problem so quickly?”
Knowing that Bob was still stalking around Piper’s apartment was scary enough. But the questions her roommate was asking raised a lot of red flags. I wouldn’t have been surprised if Bob offered her money for information on where Piper was going.
“You can’t mess around with roaches,” he says and lowers his voice. “And it looked like they were moving to your building next.”
I clench my phone tighter thinking about Bob trying to break in here and take Piper from me. The thought makes me walk closer to the bathroom so I can put my eyes on her and remind myself that she’s safe.
“They were moving that fast and you didn’t tell me?” My heart is pounding as I walk through my bedroom and to the bathroom. When I see Piper, I lean against the doorframe, and my panic begins to calm.
“Kid, I didn’t send you to all those fancy schools for you to be an exterminator. That’s my job.” Uncle Dino huffs a laugh. “And from the sound of it, you’ve got something you need to stay clean for.”
“I sure do,” I say, and Piper turns in the water to face me. Her smile is so bright, and I grin back at her, thankful that we are going to have a lifetime of this. “Thanks for looking out for me and my girl.”
“Dinner at the house on Sunday,” he says and hangs up before I can answer.
I’m laughing as I put my phone on the bathroom counter and reach for the front of my pants.
“Why are you so happy?” Piper asks, her eyes watching me strip down until I’m completely naked.
“Because you’re here.” I slip into the tub in front of her and pull her closer to straddle me. “Because you’re mine.” Her eyelids lower with desire as my hard cock nudges her slippery opening. “Because I love you.”
Her hands slide up my chest and to the back of my neck while I slowly sink into her.
“You love me?” Her lips part in a silent gasp when I get her fully seated on my cock.
“From the moment I first saw you. You’re my soul mate, Piper. I love you, and I want to spend the rest of my life taking care of you.”
“Landon.” Her fingernails dig into me as my cock swells impossibly bigger inside of her. “I love you too.”
“Show me, baby girl.” I grip her hips and gently move her up and down my length. “Prove you’ll be mine forever.”
“Anything, Landon.” Her eyes close, and her head falls back.
“Marry me.” Her eyes snap open, and there’s a moment of shock like she can’t believe I asked. How could she not know this was the inevitable end?
“Are you sure?” She seems more worried about me wanting her than me being good enough for her.
“Sure?” I shake my head, pulling her tighter against my chest. “One thing I’m sure of is that I can’t live without you. I can’t, and I won’t. If you don’t say yes, I’ll spoil you with extravagant gifts and trips around the world. And if you still don’t say yes, I’ll give you so many orgasms you won’t know the wedding is happening until it’s too late.”
She smiles at me before placing a kiss on my lips. “I should probably consult with my fancy lawyer before I agree to anything.”
