“Well, you see, I recently took on this delivery job because of the cute girl next door, but she was a horrible tipper. So I got thismulti-million dollar pitching contract instead. Makes paying for this and paying to get it shipped back to Boston much simpler.”
I can practically feel her eyes roll. “I’m hitting you in my head, just so you know.”
“I know. I can feel the annoyance radiating off you.”
She chuckles softly. “So, are you going to tell me what we’re doing?”
“And take all the fun out of it? Absolutely not. Just sit back and enjoy the ride, baby.”
“That’s not exactly the ‘lay back and enjoy it’ I was thinking of.”
“We’ve got all day. I want you to enjoy all positions.”
Chapter 30
Callie
After driving a half hour toward the coast, Will pulls into a parking lot across the street from a pier that has all these cute booths set up. Lending me a hand as we get off, I let him get my helmet as well.
At this point I’m sure he knows I can do it. I like being independent, but sometimes I like letting him just take care of me. And while I don’t know what he has planned exactly, the effort is already romantic as hell.
I’ve felt a little bummed because part of me really wanted to lock ourselves in one of our hotel rooms for our entire day off, but I know that even with aDo Not Disturbsign we’d have zero privacy. If Shannon didn’t come knocking, my nosy brother would.
Adam texted me first thing this morning offering to take me to lunch. I didn’t exactly know what excuse to give so I went tried and true with girly shit. Loaded him up with shopping, me-time, exploring cutesy tea shops—told him anything that screamed girl time. I practically held my breath as those three dots danced and his “Nah, count me out. Enjoy your day” text came through.
“You ready?” he asks.
“For the date I know nothing about? I guess,” I snark.
“Look who’s being the smart ass now.” Will’s hand threads through my hair then down to my neck and pulls me to him.
The kiss doesn’t start small. It’s desperate, claiming—it’s “let me suffocate in your mouth because if this is how I go, then I’ll die happy.”
For a moment it feels as if it’s only Will and I around. This is the kiss I wanted to spend hours on in our hotel room. Keeping this a secret just makes less and less sense with each kiss.
Our moment comes to an abrupt end when a group of what looks like high school kids start hollering and whistling at us.
Will pulls back with a chuckle and I can’t help but send the guys the middle finger.
Will takes my hand and places a light kiss to the back of it. “Come on, Blaze, we’ve got plenty of time for that later.”
I lean back slightly with raised eyebrows. “I’m going to hold you to that.”
“Oh, believe me, after this date you’ll be putty in my hands.”
I roll my eyes. “Aren’t we confident.”
Will wraps his arm around my shoulder to lead me toward the pier. “I’m a pitcher, of course I’m confident.”
We walk across the crosswalk but instead of walking further down the pier, Will pulls me to the side toward the strip.
“Don’t worry, we’ll come back,” he says when he notices me looking back at it. “I told you we’ve gotallday.”
He leans over to kiss my temple while walking me further down. The buildings lining the strip are exactly like the pictures of typical beach-style buildings I’ve seen. “You know, this is the first time I’ve ever been to Florida.”
“Really?” Will glances my way for a moment.
“Yeah, my family wasn’t exactly the beach vacation type. Any vacation type, for that matter. My dad’s a complete workaholic and my mom hated the idea of any travel. They love New Havenso much, so traveling just seemed irrelevant.” I shrug. “You have family here, right?”
