“You live here?” She gazes up at the giant building in front of her. “It’s big.”
Jett laughs. “I live in one of the apartments. It’s not all mine, Daddy has money, but not that kind of money.”
Stevie tilts her head to the side. “How much money do you have?”
Now it’s my turn to laugh. “Stevie, that’s a rude question. Come on, Mommy’s starving, and this pizza smells too good.”
Jett stopped on the way and picked us up four boxes of pizza. Why we need four, I don’t know, but that’s what he ordered.
We make our way inside, and Stevie is overjoyed when she realizes there is an elevator. “Can I push the buttons?”
“Of course, Little Bee.” Jett sets down some of the bags and lifts her so she can hit the up button then does the same when we get inside. “Push number six. Right there.” He lifts her right in front of the button.
He sets her back down then steps closer to me with a sexy as sin smirk on his face. “Remember the last time we were in an elevator?”
“How could I forget?” I keep my voice low. Stevie is thoroughly distracted watching the elevator changing floors but still. “How does last time compare to this time?”
“Let’s see. Last time I was taking the most beautiful woman back to my hotel room to f…”
I raise my eyebrows and gesture to the little ears.
That smirk on his face grows. Man, he’s so handsome.
“Now, I’m taking the most beautiful woman back to my place for the same thing but we’ll have to put our daughter to bed first. So, it sounds a million times better, Wy.”
Jett pulls me in to kiss my forehead as the elevator dings.
“We’re here!” Stevie shrieks and bolts out the door.
“Stevie, wait for us,” I holler after her and Jett chuckles.
“Go to the right, Stevie,” he says as he picks up the bags and we make our way out. Stevie stands at the edge of the split.
“Which way is right again?” she calls.
I hold Jett back a little so we can let her figure it out. “Hold out your hands, Stevie.”
She takes her little hands and spreads them wide. “Like this?”
“Yup. Now when you color what hand do you write with?”
Her right hand shoots in the air. “This one!”
She shoots down to the right before I even have a chance to tell her good job. Goodness, this girl is going to be the death of me.
“Which way now?” she hollers.
Jett shakes his head and smiles. “Go all the way to the end, we’re right behind you.”
I let Jett lead and follow behind him. I’m a little unsure of what to expect out of Jett’s apartment. He told me he was able to move into a bigger place but I didn’t think he’d been back in Seattle for him to actually move anything yet.
Jett stops at the last door on the left, but I keep walking to Stevie as she takes in the view from the window.
“Mommy, how did they make those buildings so big?”
“Kid, I’d love to tell you a good answer, but the best your mom’s got is someone smarter than me did it.”
Stevie giggles. “I think you’re smart, Mommy.”
