COLE

Iheaved my guts onto the curb after Enzo pulled over for me. Not only were we stuck in a fucking rental until his new ride came in, but now our girl was gone, and I was puking on a city sidewalk.

“Gross,” some girl shrieked, jumping away from the splatter zone as I heaved again.

I gave her the finger as I emptied more of my guts onto the pavement. I was sick with worry. It wasn’t like Rosalie to disappear on us. Given what happened last time she was alone, only the worst scenarios flooded my head.

I sat back up, wiped my mouth, and took the water Enzo offered me. Quickly, I swished it around in my mouth before spitting it outside.

“You good?” Enzo asked tightly.

I nodded and looked in the back to check on E. We’d had to fucking drug him to get him to calm down. Now, he was fucking dead to the world because he’d gotten so bad he was almost uncontrollable. Kept talking shit about how she promised she wouldn’t go. Enzo had to hold him down in the backseat at a red light while I loaded him up on meds. He’d passed the fuck out with her name on his lips.

Enzo pulled his phone out and called Fox, who answered after three rings.

“Anything?” Enzo demanded, a slight shake to his voice. Enzo was always good at hiding his fears. He kept his shit together like Fox did. It was E and I who were fucking messes, E more than me, but still. Hearing Enzo’s voice tremble let me know shit wasn’t right.

“Nothing,” Fox’s voice came over the line. “Ryder and Trent are out looking right now, too. We’ve been down every single fucking street. Her car is nowhere to be found either.”

“Maybe she drove out of town,” I murmured. “Like she ran.” The words were heavy on my tongue.

Enzo let out a grunt of frustration. “Keep looking. Make another pass. I have men blanketing the entire city. I’ll send some to check the outskirts. She’s here somewhere.”

Fox agreed, and the call disconnected. I stared out the window at all the people out and about so late at night. We’d been at this shit for hours now.

“She’s gone,” I said softly. “She fucking left us.”

“She didn’t leave,” Enzo snapped, tugging at his hair.

“She took her fucking car. She’s nowhere to be found. She’s gone, Enzo. Unless some motherfucker snatched her up, I’d say she wisened up and fucking bailed.”

“Why would she just up and leave?” Enzo demanded, looking over at me. “Huh?”

“Because I’m a fuck-up,” I whispered. “I have anger control issues when it comes to Ass Hat. She got tired of it. I’m not fucking stupid. I know she cares about the asshole.”

Enzo sighed and closed his eyes for a moment. “Cole, she’s just upset. She’ll be back. She’s our girl. She may be angry and fed up, but it’s Rosalie. We’ll find her.”

“What if someone has her?” My voice trembled with the question.

“If someone had her, we’d know about it. They’d be blasting it all over to draw us out. They know we’d come for her. She’s blowing off steam. She’s safe. Once she calms down, she’ll call or come home. Then we will deal with it.”

I nodded, my throat tight. It was as good a plan as any.

And really, it was all we fucking had.

SEVENTY-SEVEN

ROSALIE

Iwoke with a headache. Groaning, I rolled over and reached for my phone on the bedside table, but came up empty-handed. I forced my eyes open and looked around the unfamiliar bedroom.

Where the hell am I?

It definitely wasn’t my bedroom. This room was beautiful, with ornate wall sconces and a fluffy bed, I almost didn’t care where I was.

I sat up and took in the rest of the place. A balcony with French doors. An attached bathroom where I could make out a massive jetted tub and a huge glass shower. Marble flooring. Overstuffed furniture in a sitting area. A small table where one could take a morning tea if they were into that sort of thing.

I rubbed my eyes, trying to remember what I’d done last night.
