He leaned forward to place a quick kiss on her lips.“Damn right you will.”

Then she pushed her breasts against his chest as she bent to whisper in his ear.“And when you ask, when we’re both ready, my answer will be yes.”

One Month Later

Jeremiah leaned back in his chair as he studied the man in front of him. This meeting had nothing to do with the casino and everything to do with his side business. As he flexed his fingers, his knuckles were a little stiff.Probably arthritis.Working his way through the underground fighting ring had been easy when he was twenty, but now he was paying for it twenty years later.

“You seemed to have gambled and lost a lot in my casino,” he said.

The man sitting in front of his desk fidgeted as he balanced on the end of the chair.“I was trying to raise money for a b-business idea.”

Jeremiah raised an eyebrow.“Business?”

“Yeah,” the man replied, nodding enthusiastically.“I have several ideas that will make a lot of money.”

“Okay.Let me hear them.”

“Oh, yeah, great.Um.Okay, the first is scented canned air.Imagine you’re hiking up Mt.Charleston and the air is getting thin. You can open up a can to get a breath, and on top of that, it’ll be scented.”

“That’s a dumb idea.”

The man’s eyes widened, a touch of panic filling his eyes.“How about Sex SPF.You’re outside, maybe in nature, have a desire to fuck, but the sun is shining down. You’re gonna want to protect your privates.”

“How long do you think they’re going to be fucking out in nature?”Jeremiah asked.“People can use regular sunscreen on their ass.”

“I-I got a lot more ideas.”

Jeremiah sighed. His mind went back to Phineas Jones, and how that partnership has yielded an unexpected profit.Already, his team, working with Phineas and his mine maps, had pulled rough opals from Direridge’s mine.Much to everyone’s amazement, they were rare black fire opals, and just like Lowen had said, their N1 clarity put a high price tag on them.

Maybe he should consider other business arrangements.

“Listen,” he said.“If you have a good idea, bring it to me and I’ll consider if it’s worth my time.”

Eyes wide, the man nodded.“Yes.Thank you.”

“This is not a guarantee of anything,” Jeremiah warned.“And the ideas better be good.Understand, Simon?”

“Yes,” Simon gulped.“Yes, yes.Again, thank you.”

He gave a wave of his hand, dismissing him, and Simon Shrewbridge practically ran out of his office.

Epilogue

Two Years Later

Evren held Lowen’s hand as he led her to Jeremiah’s dining room, like they’d done for the past two years.A large volume of food rested on the table and she could smell the delicious scent of coffee.A large man, covered in tattoos, sat at the far end.Evren held out the chair for her and she sat smiling at the stranger.

“Hello,” she greeted.

“That is Aera Cross,” Evren told her.“The long-lost prodigal stepbrother.”

“I’m not a wayward child,” Cross deadpanned.

“Tomato, tomahto,” Evren said with a shrug.

“Well, I guess that makes me your sister-in-law,” she said with a smile.“I’m Lowen.Nice to meet you.”
