My eyes snap open. For a moment, I don’t know where I am but as my awareness slowly returns, I realize I’m leaning against Logan.

“We’re home,” Logan says softly.

Straightening up, I see that the car has stopped outside his house.

Logan opens the door and immediately, the cool night air hits my face. I inhale deeply as pure relief spreads through me.

This isn’t a fever dream. I’m no longer in Pete’s clutches and somehow, Logan and his friend rescued me from a raging chaos of bullets and explosions.

Suddenly, Logan’s arms slip under me without a word, almost lifting me off my feet like I weigh nothing. But I barely have the strength to protest. My body feels too weak and my mind is still trying to catch up with whatever’s happened over the past twenty-four hours. So, I simply let Logan carry me out of the car.

My cheek rests against his solid shoulder. He mumbles something to his friend and steps away from the car.

Logan walks quickly but every step he takes feels careful and deliberate, like he’s holding something precious. When the door to the house opens, a familiar scent hits my nostrils. It’s acombination of old wood, faint detergent, and a lingering hint of coffee.

At this late hour, the living room is dark and quiet. It’s...safe.

Logan doesn’t stop to check if anyone’s around. He carries me up the stairs, past the family photos along the walls, and into his room. Closing the door with his foot, he carries me to the bed and gently lowers me onto it. “Stay here,” he says, his voice low but taut with tension.

I watch him move with sharp, purposeful motions, pulling out the first aid kit from his closet. Coming back, he crouches in front of me and opens the box with a furious look on his handsome face.

Without saying a word, he peels off my jacket.

Cool air hits the fresh welts on my chest, making me hiss softly.

Logan’s hands hover over the wounds, trembling slightly. “Jesus Christ,” he mutters, his voice rough. “What the hell were you thinking going to that asshole by yourself?”

My lips press into a thin line as I look away.

“You knew exactly the kind of man Pete is. Youknew, and you went anyway...” His voice cracks, not with anger but with sheer panic barely contained. “You didn’t even call me. You didn’t even tell Coach Becker where you were going.”

I swallow hard. “I didn’t have a choice.”

“Bullshit,” Logan snaps, staring daggers into my eyes. “You always have a choice. You could’ve come to me. I told you I’d protect you—”

“—and I told you I wouldn’t let him touch you or your family,” I interrupt, my voice sharp but quiet. “If anything happened to Maddie or your mom, you’d never forgive yourself. And I—” My voice falters, softening into something fragile. “I can’t watch you break like that, Logan. I won’t.”

He stares at me, his jaw tight, his chest rising and falling with barely restrained emotion.

I force a small, pained smile. “I don’t regret it. Not one bit. Because I love you.”

My words seem to shatter something in Logan. His expression twists and darkness flickers in his eyes. Dropping the antiseptic wipe onto the bed, he cups my face in his large hands. “You’re mine,” he whispers, his voice low and ragged. “You don’t get to throw yourself away like that. Not for anyone. Not even for me.”

With that, he crashes his lips to mine.

My breath hitches.

There’s nothing soft or loving about the kiss. It’s desperate, wild, laced with rage and fear, and something possessive that makes my heart pound.

Logan kisses me like he’s reclaiming me, like he needs to remind both of us who I belong to.

I want to console him, tell him I’ll always be his but Logan doesn’t give me a chance. His kiss turns violent and nearly chokes me.

I try to push him away for a moment, my hands trembling against his shoulders. “Logan…” I gasp, but my protest melts on my tongue when his mouth moves to my jaw and then slides down to my neck, leaving a trail of heat.

“You’re not allowed to do this to me again,” Logan whispers against my sensitive skin, his tone dark but full of aching love. “I can’t… I can’t lose you again.”
